A New Era for Nissan Stadium

Slated to open in the spring of 2027 and already about a third of the way through the construction process, the new stadium’s creation was inspired not only by Nashville’s growth but also by the advancements happening within the entertainment industry.

“When we set out to design the stadium and its programming, we were trying to create the world’s best stadium that would attract the biggest events,” says Dan. “We want it to have the most incredible fan experience, so that’s how we’re looking at it. We’re dreaming really big.”

That dream stems partly from lessons learned with the current iteration of Nissan Stadium.

“It’s been an interesting journey with the current stadium, as we currently have more non-football games than football games,” Dan continues. “As we look at our current building, it doesn’t have a roof, so hosting certain events is a challenge. We wanted to make sure we did everything we could to leave the possibility open that we could host other events over the years.”

As this model shows, by adding a roof to the new Nissan Stadium, the venue will be able to host more events throughout the year. “There’s a huge demand for events — including football games — in the city of Nashville,” says Dan. “When you think about the evolution of the city and the opportunity that sits here today, the new stadium reflects that growth.” Image: Donald Page for the Tennessee Titans

Technology, Comfort & A Fan-Centered Design

The fan experience is at the heart of the new stadium’s design. With cutting-edge technology and intentional design choices around every corner, the goal was simple: eliminate the pain points fans have come to expect, such as extended wait times and long lines.

“We’re really catering our building to the fan experience,” says Dan. “The experience we’re trying to create is a ‘no line’ experience.”

That starts with a major first: Nissan Stadium will be the first entirely frictionless stadium in the world. Using technology similar to Amazon’s “Just Walk Out” system, fans can grab their favorite food and drinks and walk right out — no cashier, no waiting in line.

Other thoughtful upgrades include double the number of restrooms, padded seating in every section (not just premium areas), larger LED screens, and Evolv security screening technology that speeds up entry into the stadium.

Built for More Than Just Football

As Nashville’s entertainment scene continues to evolve, so does the demand for live events. With the city attracting more residents and visitors, the new stadium needed to be able to host everything from large-scale concerts to collegiate sporting events and everything in between. In fact, Dan says the wishlist for the new stadium includes major events like the Super Bowl, the Final Four, and WrestleMania.

“We’re building something that will be able to host any major event that you possibly could imagine,” he explains. “We certainly wanted to design the stadium in a way that would be a great building for a variety of events, but we also wanted to be mindful of evolution and look towards the future of what other events could come. The building is built in a way that is very flexible.”

What’s Next: Progress & Sneak Peeks

If you drive by the construction site today, you’ll be able to see the bones of the new stadium. Currently in the concrete phase, Dan says they’re beginning to move into the steel phase, so fans can expect to see more steel being erected toward the top of the building very soon.
