Two Lakefront Alabama Escapes — with a Culinary Twist

Along the quiet shores of Weiss Lake in Cedar Bluff, AL, Walcox Point offers a welcoming retreat designed for slowing down and savoring the moment. Just 75 minutes from Birmingham (and equally close to Atlanta, with Huntsville and Chattanooga a bit further away), the property features two fabulous rentals — the Lodge and the Cottage. Both are chic, modern farmhouse-style homes designed to optimize the surrounding waterfront views.
Additionally, there’s a thoughtful perk that elevates the entire experience: chef-prepared meals delivered to your rental!
A Vision Realized
When Thomas Cox and his family first viewed the property, they envisioned a retreat that could accommodate gatherings of all kinds. Today, Walcox Point delivers precisely that. The Lodge sleeps 18, while the smaller Cottage accommodates five — two distinct spaces that make the property equally suited for family reunions, milestone celebrations, or a quiet weekend of fishing with friends.
To maximize the setting, Thomas opened up sweeping views of the water by clearing trees, ensuring every guest enjoys the lake from inside or out. “We reconfigured the whole space, including cutting down 26 trees so that there’s a clear view of the lake,” Thomas explains. “Now there’s a view of the lake from every bedroom in the Lodge.”

Spaces Designed to Gather Stress-Free
Designed with togetherness in mind, the Lodge combines modern farmhouse style with the kind of comfort that makes groups feel instantly at home. It has one of the largest couches you’ll ever see, Thomas notes, as well as a kids’ bunk room that sleeps eight. There’s also a queen suite, meaning the place can accommodate up to 18 guests. The Cottage is designed for a more intimate stay, accommodating up to five guests while maintaining the same sense of comfort.

“Guests find the details just as appealing as the layout, including Starlink internet for those who need to stay connected, TVs in every room, a closet full of games,” Thomas tells us. “There’s also a s’mores care package waiting on arrival. A fire pit invites evenings under the stars, while coffee and pantry staples make mornings feel seamless.”
For guests who want to spend time on the water rather than just looking at it, Walcox Point offers a rare amenity — a private boat launch right on the property. Instead of driving miles to find public access, you can bring your own boat and be on the lake within minutes of your arrival. Prefer to rent? Thomas can provide trusted local recommendations for watercraft rentals. “It’s a helpful convenience that ensures lake life feels effortless from the very start,” he adds.

Historic Elements
History is woven into the homes as well. In the early 1900s, Italian brick mason Cescuti, commissioned by Martha Berry to create the iconic stonework at Berry College in Rome, Georgia, also built the fireplaces at Walcox Point. These unique and historic features remain focal points in both homes, linking past craftsmanship with present-day charm.
Meals, Simplified
The most distinctive amenity at Wilcox Point may be the catering service, one inspired by Thomas’s own travels. “We travel every year with our family — 22 of us,” Cox explains. “The hardest thing about a big group is getting to the location late, unpacking, and then everyone saying, ‘OK, what’s for dinner?’ Most people just order pizza. That’s not always fun.”

To solve that, Thomas (who is also the owner of Table & Thyme Catering) created a pre-order catering option exclusively for Walcox Point guests. About two weeks before arrival, guests receive an email with menu choices. Multiple protein and side dish options can be ordered in any combination, including choices for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Meals are delivered straight to the property’s refrigerator before guests arrive, all prepped and ready to slide into the oven. “All you have to do is read the directions, put it in the oven, and by the time you’re unpacked, dinner is ready,” Thomas says.
Small but meaningful, it’s thoughtful details like this that transform a getaway into a true retreat, allowing guests to create memories instead of just meals and keeping the focus on the time spent together and the luxury of being fully present.
