Thanksgiving Side: Turnips
These creamy and tasty turnips make a wonderful Thanksgiving side!
- 4-5 large turnips peeled with a paring knife or vegetable peeler
- 2 Tbsp butter
- salt and pepper to taste
Peel turnips with a peeler or a paring knife.
Place in a large steamer basket and steam for about 20-30 minutes, or until they are fork tender.
Drain water out of bottom of pan. Melt 2 Tbsp of butter in bottom and return turnips to the pan. Turn heat to low.
Using a ricer or mashed potato masher, mash into a pulp. Add salt and pepper to taste and then leave cooking on low. This will cook away some of the excess liquid.
Serve and eat!
