We have been steady in our New Year’s resolution to stay in shape, but this is the time of year we are faced with the tough decision of heading to a local patio for drinks with friends — and putting ourselves on the brink of reversing all of our hard work — or squeezing in a sweat session. Fitness experts across Music City are gently nudging us to choose the latter, providing motivation in the form of music. Because let’s face it, there is nothing that gets us moving like the beat of a good song. This workout playlist includes picks from fit folks around town and encompasses everything from rock ‘n’ roll to country to rap*. Enjoy!

Jon Sexton, of BOOST FitClub prefers playing rock, such as “The Win” by Leaders and Kings, to maintain his level of intensity, while Stephanie Heymann of Cardio Barre helps her clients feel the burn to the sounds of Fifth Harmony’s “Work From Home” and “Hands to Myself” by Selena Gomez.

Leslie Bennett, also of Cardio Barre, embraces the shakes with motivation from “Cake by the Ocean” by DNCE and Twenty One Pilots’ “HeavyDirtySoul.”

If you prefer old-school, head to Marathon Pilates and train with Anissa, who loves “All Eyez on Me” by 2Pac (this didn’t make the playlist due to many, many explicit lyrics — but we can attest to the fact that it is a great workout song) and “Super Freak” by Rick James. Brianna Briley of Studio Novo also likes to kick it old school with “My Boo” by Ghost Town DJs, but she doesn’t shy away from radio hits like “Wild Things” by Alessia Cara.

Throw it back to the early 2000s with Chris Moore of Orangetheory Fitness and his pick of “Remember the Name” by Fort Minor.

And although Iron Tribe goers love classic rock (especially “Thunderstuck” by AC/DC), they also pay homage to Music City by playing upbeat country songs like “Done” by The Band Perry.

One of our favorite yogis in town, Susannah Herring of Hot Yoga Plus, likes “On My Mind” by Ellie Goulding, “Sorry” by Justin Beiber and “Fight Song” by Rachel Platten for the upbeat portion of her workout. And, she is not the only one who is a Belieber. Kady Decker and Sarah Moats of Pure Barre love anything Justin Beiber, in addition to “Whistle While You Work” by Katy Tiz and “With or Without You/Anything Could Happen — Mashup.”

Finally, if none of these songs sound familiar (with the exception of “Super Freak,” of course), don’t worry. Just pop in your earbuds; we’ve done the rest for you by putting together the playlist below. Log in to your Spotify account first, then click play, get moving and then treat yourself to that cocktail on the patio!

*A few songs feature explicit lyrics. Please keep this in mind before listening.
