The Wild Hare

June 22, 2011 by Liza Graves

Near the corner of White Bridge and Charlotte Avenue, across from Sprintz Furniture, there is a little hole-in-the-wall restaurant that’s worth knowing about: The Wild Hare. With farm fresh produce and crazy-good prices, this little slice of sunshine is a welcome new find for Nashville.

I recently had a lunch date there with my little guy, Charlie. I figured if my 7-year old and I both gave it a thumbs up, then it was worthy of a StyleBlueprint post.

He ordered the 4 oz. burger (they also have a 10 oz. on the menu) for $5, and I asked for the Grilled Farmer’s Salad ($6). We ordered the tempura vegetables (my attempt to prove vegetables were tasty) with some Jalapeño Gouda Sauce ($4).

The wall next to our booth was painted with chalk board paint – a very fun treat- and we played tic-tac-tow and hangman while we waited on our food. There are only a few booths next to this wall, so if you have kids, be sure to ask.

It’s always fun to draw on a wall.

You will need a to-go container, as the food is plentiful and delish. Now, for the following photos, please remember that I DETEST whipping out my big ol’ Cannon Rebel in restaurants. So, excuse the iPhone photography.

Hamburger. I loved the spicy pickle chips on top. The fries were yummy and my son was happy. With fries, $8.

Tempura Battered Veggies with Jalapeño-Gouda Sauce. This was a HUGE amount for $4.

My Grilled Farmer’s Salad, for $6.

Small side of Brussels sprouts, $3

The pizzas at the neighboring tables looked especially good. And, I heard this said while I was there, “Welcome back. Has it been even 24 hours?”

I ordered my husband a California BLT with sundried tomato mayo, Benton’s (a local company) bacon and avocado, along with some fries.  He asked me twice while eating it, “Now, where is this place?”

To go: California BLT, $5

With newly expanded hours to include dinner, menu items like the 10 oz. Black Angus Rib-Eye ($15) and the Pan Seared Trout ($12) will have me back. You can also order beer. To find out more, check out their website: thewildharenashville.com

The lazy days of summer are upon us.  Shake up the “usual, ” and head to The Wild Hare.
