Spring is in full swing and we couldn’t be happier! Warmer temps and busy schedules reign as the end of the school year barrels toward us. With so many fabulous things going on in our fair city, we’ve included events that range in formality of attire. To simplify your shopping ventures, we’ve also included some expert advice to help you find just the right pieces. Rebecca Thompson, of Rebecca Thompson Wardrobe Consulting, shopped with us to help pull together ensembles that would flatter many shapes and sizes, while also being versatile enough to incorporate in different outfits. The Event: Frist Gala

  • Saturday, April 9, 2016
  • A black-tie fundraiser to support the Frist Center for the Visual Arts and celebrate the opening of “Treasures from the House of Alba: 500 Years of Art and Collecting”
  • For more information, click here.

The Frist Gala is a black-tie affair complete with cocktails and dinner. Proceeds from the event support the Frist Center’s mission of organizing and bringing beautiful and important art to Nashville and creating programs and activities related to the ever-changing exhibitions on view in the galleries.

What to wear? This event is black tie, so this is definitely your chance to get all glammed up. Long gowns, fabulous jewelry, the perfect shoe — whatever it takes to have you feeling elegant. We found some lovely formal looks at Jamie, which we then paired with some samples from their gorgeous jewelry collection.

Look #1:

50s elegance exemplified from Jamie

“This look is peak elegance to me. It reminds me of what my mother would have worn in the ’50s,” Rebecca says. “It’s absolutely timeless, but in a feminine and mature way. I can see this dress looking lovely on most shapes, but the wearer would need a certain level of confidence to keep the dress from wearing them.” From Jamie: Theia gown, $698; silver Stuart Weitzman strappy heel, $398

Gorgeous Jordan Alexander pearls

From Jamie: Jordan Alexander pearl earrings, $1,508; Jordan Alexander pearl bracelets, $1,358 to $2,258

Look #2:

Bold florals are current without being too trendy

“Florals are always very popular in the spring, and this year is no exception to that. I like this dress because it is somewhat more modern and fun,” Rebecca explains. “The crossed neckline and bold colors and print make it very current with pieces we’re seeing show up on runways.”  From Jamie: Theia floral gown, $995

Amethyst earrings add glamor to any ensemble

From Jamie: Laurie Kaiser amethyst earrings, $3,728

Look #3:

A beautiful magenta gown from Jamie

“Bright colors pack a punch and look lovely against so many skin tones,” Rebecca says. “A V-neck is also just so great on almost all women. It really elongates your shape and is also lovely and elegant. I like this dress because it’s classic without being black.” From Jamie: Monique Lhullier gown, $598; silver Stuart Weitzman strappy heel, $398

Gorgeous Laurie Kaiser moonstone jewelry

“Moonstones can go with anything,” Rebecca notes. “I can see someone buying these to wear with a formal gown together and then separating them for more casual outfits. The earrings would look great with jeans and a nice blouse and you could honestly wear that necklace with everyday clothes for an added polish. They’re expensive pieces, but the versatility of the stone means you could wear it beyond just formal occasions.” From Jamie: Laurie Kaiser moonstone earrings, $6,488; Laurie Kaiser moonstone necklace, $6,078

  • A ladies luncheon and fundraiser to support The Women’s Fund
  • For tickets and more information, click here.

Grab your hottest handbag and head to Power of the Purse. This luncheon is hosted by The Women’s Fund, which provides grant funding to organizations that promote education, financial sufficiency, health and wellness for women. The featured keynote speaker is Lauren Bush Lauren, founder and CEO of FEED projects, a company with the simple mission of creating products to help FEED the world.

What to wear? For this event, ditch the jeans and don a new sundress. Complete your look with the perfect clutch and jewelry before stepping out the door in style. There is a mix of “ladies who lunch” and businesswomen at this event. Don’t be afraid to dress like the leading lady you are, as this is a premier Nashville luncheon and fundraiser. We pulled three gorgeous spring looks from Gus Mayer.

Look #1:

The peacock printed clutch pops against the teal dress

“With a solid dress, it is important to have a statement earring or clutch,” explains Rebecca. “This peacock-inspired one by Serpui is fabulous with the teal. The colors reinforce one another and pop!” From Gus Mayer: Teal Diane von Furstenberg dress, $298; Serpui purse, $570; CV Designs necklace, $115

Look #2:

White dresses are the fashion equivalent of a blank slate

“This white dress provides endless options through spring and summer. Versatility is huge when you’re investing in a new pieces because you want to get maximum mileage,” says Rebecca. “I also love the kick pleat. It’s not new, but it’s flirty without being too young. I tell women to look for pieces like this that are current, not trendy. They last longer!” From Gus Mayer: White AKRIS Punto dress, $1190; Jill Haber clutch, $498; S&H Designs necklace, $180

Look #3:

V-necklines work for so many women

“Again, and really with all these looks, I paired a solid dress with a statement clutch and necklace,” Rebecca says. “You want to have pieces that can be mixed and matched with multiple accessories so you don’t get tired of everything you own. The V-neck on this dress is also great. A V-neckline is the most flattering shape for most women. It elongates the neck and body.”  From Gus Mayer: Magenta Elle Tahari dress, $298; Straw Kayu clutch, $198; CV Designs necklace, $145

The Event: Nashville Film Festival

  • April 14 to 23, 2016
  • A weeklong celebration of innovation, music and perspectives from around the world through the art of film.
  • For tickets and more information, click here.

The Nashville Film Festival is a cultural arts institution that brings the world to Nashville — filmmakers, celebrities, musicians, screenwriters, film fans and media — in an annual celebration of the art of motion pictures. The 10-day film festival celebrates the diversity of the human spirit expressed through the art of film.

What to wear? You will likely see ensembles of all types at the Nashville Film Festival. We recommend a step down from work attire, but a step up from weekend casual: casual dresses, well-cut jeans and a top, and, of course, accessories and shoes to add that extra polish. We’ve pulled several options from Boutique Bella to inspire you!

Look #1:

Every woman needs a white dress in her closet

“Every woman needs a white dress in her closet,” says Rebecca. “Especially since white has been embraced as a year round color, well-made white dresses are extremely versatile. Different jackets, shoes, jewelry and bags make this a year round must-have.” From Boutique Bella: White Cooper & Ella dress, $207; fashion necklace, $74

Look #2:

Flare jeans work on almost all body types

“This look is a classic,” Rebecca notes. “Flare jeans are very flattering for most body types. They balance out wider hips or a slight tummy, they elongate legs, they’re just great. And a white blouse is another must. Simple and elegant, it is so transitional and can be used with any bottoms in your closet.” From Boutique Bella: Blaque Label blouse, $129; JBrand flare jeans, $198; Ceri Hoover purse, $235; Deborah Brewer necklace, $98

Look #3:

White pants allow prints to really pop

“I prefer to pair patterns with white over black,” Rebecca says. “I think white creates more of a blank slate that allows the pattern to shine more. Even if the white is slightly off, it just provides a cleaner look.” From Boutique Bella: Tolani printed blouse, $149; AG mid-rise cigarette jeans, $178; Ceri Hoover purse, $235; fashion necklace, $82
