We’ve been hearing murmurings about warm cookies being delivered for awhile and finally made a point to figure this whole, gooey madness out. Late night deliveries? Warm cookies? No messy kitchen?! Where has this been all our lives?
Yes, this dream situation is a reality thanks to Jake Veyhl of Jake’s Bakes. With a kitchen in the Gulch, these all-natural cookies are available by delivery only, within a 5 mile radius. (Live outside the delivery zone? Keep reading; there is hope!)
Inspired by a warm, skillet chocolate chip cookie option found on a Homewood, AL, menu, Jake and his wife pondered the idea of being able to score warm cookies in Nashville, especially late night. They both went to college in Austin, TX, and were familiar with a cookie delivery business there. They knew the idea would resonate well and by 2013, the business was open.
Given the human nature of late-night munchies, a delivery business could probably keeps its doors open delivering sub-par products. But expect more, much more, from Jake’s Bakes as their cookies are really amazing! They are made with all-natural ingredients and each recipe is unique to the business — this is not mass-produced dough being delivered to their shop to bake. Jake does point out that the M&M’s in their “Rainbow Cookie” are not all-natural, but I’m not thinking M&M fans care; they just want the real deal!
This week and next will be some of the busiest that Jake’s Bakes will see all year. Why? It’s exam time at area universities and not only are students ordering with fervor, their parents are sending care packages, as well.
Starting a couple weeks later, area high schools will start having exams and local parents can send a little encouragement, via warm cookies, with an online order to Jake’s Bake. Live outside the delivery zone? Call and ask. Sometimes, depending on the day or night, they will be able to deliver for a nominal fee.
I asked Jake about some of the odd places he has delivered cookies and it seems parking lots and street corners are definitely requested in the late night hours of downtown Nashville. As a business owner, Jake will go out of his way to make the cookie delivery happen, if at all possible!
Look for a peanut butter cookie to be added to the menu next. And yes, the recipe will be made with all-natural peanut butter. (I’m trying not to drool as I type.)
So, are you having a dinner party and looking for dessert? Order Jake’s Bakes. Live outside the delivery zone but you really want these for your next gathering? Well, the next 10 days with final exams probably won’t score you the “out of area” special service, but after that, just give Jake’s Bakes about 48 hours’ notice (and perhaps an order for a few dozen cookies), and Jake or one of his delivery guys will definitely try and make it work, if at all possible! Cookies deliver at night from 6 – 11:30 p.m.
And, for offices, here is an insider tip: Jake’s Bakes delivers from 1:00 – 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday, too.
What is obvious from speaking with Jake is that his passion is really not the actual baking, although he does that well, it’s the results. He says the positive feedback, smiles, elation and thank you’s are what allows him to have pride and take pleasure in his business. As he says, “I wish the person ordering these as a gift could see the response when the warm cookies arrive. It’s just pure elation.”
Cookie flavors include: chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin, oatmeal chocolate chip, snickerdoodle, M&M, triple chocolate and white chocolate almond. And, you can order ice cold skim, 2%, whole or chocolate milk, as well.
