With the heat of summer already here, one of the main questions we have is how to keep our makeup from melting off. Although during the dog days of summer it is tough, The Cosmetic Market is here to help with tips to help your makeup stay put and looking fresh all day!

Follow these tips from The Cosmetic Market’s Mary Kathryn Yeiser.

4 Tips for Melt-Proof Summer Makeup

Setting your makeup with a translucent powder keeps your makeup fresh and in place all day long!

1. Change your moisturizer

“During the summer, especially during the daytime, change your moisturizer to something lightweight. Because our skin is produces more oil in the summer, heavy moisturizers are not needed and can clog pores and keep your makeup from staying on all day. Something oil free or in a gel form is good because it will give your skin the hydration it needs without being heavy. Some of our favorites are: Therapy Systems Oil-Free Moisturizer, SkinCeuticals Daily Moisture for Normal to Oily Skin, Dr. Dennis Gross Hyaluronic Marine Oil-Free Moisture Cushion and Tata Harper Rebuilding Moisturizer.”

2. Use an Oil Control Primer

“After moisturizer and before foundation, use an oil control/matte primer as an extra step to prevent makeup melt. This will help control excess oil all day, keep your foundation intact, make skin look smoother and prevent creasing. Some of our favorites are: Jane Iredale Smooth Affair for Oily Skin, Becca Ever-Matte Poreless Priming Perfector and Smashbox Photo Finish Mattify Primer Stick.”

These four simple tips and swaps will help you stay fresh-faced throughout the heat of the summer.

3. Set makeup with a translucent powder

“After you are finished with your makeup, set it with a translucent powder that you can touch up throughout the day. We like a translucent powder best because it controls shine without adding additional color. You can use a loose or pressed version depending on your preference. Some of our favorites are Jane Iredale Beyond Matte HD Matifying Powder, RMS “Un” Powder and Trish McEvoy Translucent Finishing Powder.”

4. Use a finishing spray

“A finishing spray is an additional step to set makeup. During the hot summer months it feels refreshing and really helps set your makeup all day long. It is a great final step after using a translucent finishing powder. Some of our favorites are: Coola Organic Makeup Setting Spray with SPF 30, Jane Iredale Balance Hydration Spray and Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water.”
