Are you going to Wine on the River? If you don’t know what it is, never fear, we’ll tell you all about it and what to wear.
Wine on the River is this Saturday, September 19th, from 3:00-7:00P on the Shelby Street Pedestrian Bridge. Tickets are $45 in advance and $55 at the door.
Vineyards from across the country and around the world will have their wines available at WINE ON THE RIVER to be sampled, and even provide some educational insight into the wine-making process. – from website.
There will be music and food on hand with 15% of the proceeds benefiting L’ete du Vin. Click here for more details.
What to wear? You will see everything from shorts and tanks, jeans and tees to a more casual Steeple Chase look. Here is what I suggest for this fun event (and remember, we always include that fun under $100 item at the end!) :
I picked two stores to partner up that I doubt are categorized together often:www.jmclaughlin.com a preppy fun boutique in the Hill Center and Imogene + Willie, a store that exudes a little rockabilly funk found on 12th Avenue.
I love this Harbor dress at J McLaughlin. They have it in six different fabric patterns in the store right now. At $165, this is the dress you NEED. It can go from Wine on the River, to dinner, to church, to the carpool lane, to casual Saturday lunch all with a change of shoes and accessories. The dress has pin-tucks in the front and back which give it a great slimming shape. Cotton, with a touch of Spandex, this dress is great in our Southern Fall transitional weather days, but can be paired with opaque tights and boots with a cardigan before too long. I have it here in three of the six fabrics.
While at J McLaughlin, I saw these precious bamboo purses for $150. You probably want a TOTE for Wine on the River, but, for another night….. I LOVE this clutch.
Now, let’s accessorize. It looks like there could be rain Saturday (and Wine on the River is a rain or shine event). So, put an umbrella in the earlier mentioned tote! You could do the sandal thing, but I think some vintage cowboy boots and some edgy jewelry would be terrific. Here are two ensemble ideas from Imogene + Willie, located on 12th Avenue, that would pair up nicely with any of these dresses. Each picture includes a pair of cowboy boots ($100 or less), two leather cuffs, and some irresistible handmade necklaces. My favorite are the two necklaces with the individual feather attached.
That’s what I would wear to Wine on the River if I could go. I am going to be at the Vanderbilt game watching my five year old son run through the inflatable HELMET on the field. I won’t be nearly as cute at Dudley field as you will be on the Shelby Street Bridge……but I bet my smile is just as BIG!
And, that $100 or less item from J Mclaughlin that you’ve been waiting for: this $55 dollar sash that can be worn as a belt, a sash around your neck or tied to the handle of your handbag. It’s fun little piece that can give you lots of options….
If you can’t make this event, but are excited to attend an event on the Shelby Street Bridge, perhaps Dinner on the Bridge, held Oct 1, would interest you.
Happy Shopping! -Liza
