It’s January of 2009 and once again, I’m picking trends. So, what would somebody wear, let’s say in 20 years, to define 2009? Here’s what the outfit might be if fashion designers get their way: A Maxi-Dress that falls to the heel to showoff some strappy statement shoes in snakeskin that are sky-high. Add a cuff bracelet- make that two cuff bracelets. One big, one smaller. With the smaller one put a few bangles. Throw on an enormous purse in sun-kissed leather and voila! Spring 2009
I will post different outfit options that define Spring 2009 over the next 4 weeks. I think I’ll try to find my favorite mini dresses for next week, just to show off fashion’s dual nature in hem lengths this season.
Here are some sample shoes to get your gears turning:
At $995, these are to die for.
Available at www.shopbop.com.
At $895 and 4 1/2 inch high.
Jamie’s carries Jimmy Choo’s but not these…
Available at www.bergdorfgoodman.com.
More fiscally comfortable options are available from www.6pm.com. These include styles from last year that will shine brightly this year.
At $259 and was $530.
“Plume” at $161 was $329
Now, Let’s Talk Maxi Dress.
This trend started to emerge a couple of years ago. Warning: It is better on a taller gal than the more petite amongst us. It is also a style that may be too young for some. (If you remember wearing this trend in high-school or later, this trend has passed you by. Give others a chance to live it up now! If you still want to reminence, do so with a beach cover-up in the same silhouette currently available at www.jcrew.com. This style, along with the short short dress, will be fully embraced this year. There are great new dresses as well as vintage dresses that let you capture this trend. Think elegant 70’s. To ensure the ability to wear it with daytime confidence, go for ankle length. This length will pair nicely with both flip flops and the sandals listed above.
I have a few favorites I want to show you. I’m laughing that after many hours spent online, perusing through magazines as well as some local boutiques, my favorite dress was found at high fashion liquidator www.bluefly.com. I love orange. And if I wanted a Maxi dress that conjures up the 70’s, I want it to be orange!
This t-bags dress fits the bill perfectly. It is currently available at www.bluefly.com for $132. It was $220. I’m a huge denim jacket fan, so I’d throw on a short denim jacket over this dress on a cool Spring day.
Another Maxi dresses I like for this season is black and white from Banana Republic. This dress is available for $175 at www.bananarepublic.com
While I don’t really like this dress on this model, I think it has huge potential. Just don’t stand like she is while wearing it. I found this Lily Tropical Maxi dress at both Nordstrom’s for $108 and at the Myshape website for $116.
The following green silk dress is a dream at $250. Available through Etcetera Sales Consultants. See www.etcnashville.com for more details.
I’m including one more dress because if you are large chested, the previous examples may not work well, but the following should work: this Tory Burch dress also brings in Springs HOT color: Fuschia. $465 at www.toryburch.com
Okay, SO we have some awesome shoes, a Maxi dress, now we need a bag! Amongst the sun-kissed totes available this season, I think Chloe has just the most yummy one out there!
You can find this gem at www.net-a-porter.com for $1610.
Kooba Ellie Tote
Coming in at $645, this tote is a modern classic.
This bag is available at www.NeimanMarcus.com and locally at Boutique Bella.
Tory Burch Bombe Burch
And for $495, this tote looks to be the one you never let go of. Available atwww.saksfifthavenue.com
So, now all you need are some sunglasses and jewelry. We’ll walk you through that as well- be looking for our posts devoted just to Spring Jewelry!
Remember, it only works if it is your style.
