Crow’s feet, forehead wrinkles, the “11s” … those pesky lines that form between your brows. If you’re older than 35, you know what we’re talking about. And, if you’re not, you inevitably will. The reality is that we are all aging. And though we can’t turn back time, we can take some simple steps to look (and therefore feel) younger.
Though many potions claim to lessen the appearance of lines and wrinkles (apparently “the best” anti-wrinkle cream doesn’t even exist!), physician-administered treatment is thought to be the only way to affect real change in moderate to severe lines. When you begin to feel more like a Shar-Pei than a grown adult, the allure of BOTOX may be tempting. Some fear the product because of its reputation of aiding “frozen face” syndrome — case in point. But that’s not reality, say the folks at Cool Springs Plastic Surgery, who also happen to be the number one provider of BOTOX in Middle Tennessee. “Our team takes a natural, conservative approach to its services,” says Haley Wood, board-certified nurse practitioner, MSN, WHNP, CANS, and director of nonsurgical services at the practice, which has four nurses and one nurse practitioner on staff. “When patients look at themselves after a treatment of BOTOX and fillers and love what they see, we feel very satisfied,” she adds.

So what can you really expect from a BOTOX treatment?
In your initial consultation at Cool Springs Plastic Surgery, a registered nurse evaluates your health and medical histories, discusses your goals and assesses the contours of your face, doing their best to establish the expectations of each procedure prior to service so that the patient understands the outcome well in advance. BOTOX is injected into the muscles at different points on your face, and you might feel a little discomfort or notice redness or bruising, but it’s short-lived. While you may begin to see results within a few days, the full effect can be seen within 14 days, and treatments are performed every three to six months. Factors such as skin elasticity, age and where you receive the treatment will determine how often you’ll want BOTOX treatments. The non-surgical treatment is quick and simple, and pretty much anyone is a candidate except for those who are pregnant or breastfeeding, allergic to the ingredients in BOTOX or have an infection in the area to be treated.
Ultimately, whether you opt for BOTOX — or any anti-aging procedure — it is about how you feel when you look in the mirror. If the outside is not accurately reflecting what’s inside, perhaps it’s time to consider a proactive approach, and BOTOX may be it.
