August — let’s embrace this last month of summer with these finds from our fabulous local boutiques and businesses!
Coffee Table Books
Nothing is more attractive than a gorgeous coffee table book, and the team at Pierce & Company is happy to offer tips and tricks on how to style them. Along with expert design advice, you can walk out of Pierce & Co.’s design store on Belmont Boulevard with unique, stylish accent pieces. We love their collection of art, travel and style books as much as we love the home accessories that surround them!
Spirit of Nashville has so many amazing trinkets and gifts that it’s hard to narrow it down to a few. That’s why we were so excited to discover their Build Your Own Gift Baskets. Choose a small, medium or large bucket and fill it with your choice of goodies to make the perfect housewarming gift for new neighbors or birthday present for old friends.
We cannot believe the summer is almost over. But instead of mourning the summer days, why not celebrate the coming of fall with a back-to-school barbecue? Add a piece of local flair with these Nashville Love napkins from The Dotted Line, and enjoy all the festivity a new season brings.
Summer is the time to bare your shoulders and sport a state pride tank! We love these locally made knits from the brand CORN. Made from organic cotton, these pieces are super-soft, easy to layer and easy to wash. These Tennessee tanks are available at Blue Bohemian for $42.
Anatra Jewel is home to a carefully curated selection of fine jewelry. From statement rings to jeweled pendants, Anatra keeps their collection fresh and inspiring. These diamond earrings are understated but undoubtedly elegant. Appropriate for evenings out or everyday wear, these studs are a wardrobe staple for any season.
Local jewelry designer Jennifer Harvard makes an affordable line that you need to know about: Crescent Moon Jewels. Find her collection at MOSS (next to Art & Invention in East Nashville). Each piece is handmade and unique, like this metallic gold agate chainmaille necklace for $70.
Beware, these boots aren’t cheap, but they were just too delicious to eliminate! Made by the ultra-hip brand rag & bone, these tan leather booties from White’s Mercantile can be worn in any season, but they make the perfect segue from summer to fall. With just the right amount of sass and sophistication, these boots work with skirts, shorts, dresses and any denim.
Another luxe splurge, for sure, these sunglasses are at Barton Perreira and are part of the sought-after Farrow collection. The custom-designed colors and gold details highlight the sophisticated look of these glasses, but the face-flattering butterfly shape makes them an effortless accent, easily worn for any occasion. Each pair in the line is handmade in limited quantities, which makes this popular pick hard to keep in stock.
They say diamonds are a girl’s best friend, and we couldn’t help but notice the Diamond Water maxi dress by Show Me Your MuMu. We love this outfit Hemline Nashville put together to showcase the diversity of this closet staple. Paired with a festive piece of statement jewelry or a casual summer hat, the MuMu maxi is perfect for a day out running errands or a rooftop celebration downtown.
We couldn’t keep our eyes off of these Nala leather handbags at Elaine Turner, especially since they are on sale! The light gold bamboo chain pops against the variety of leather shades and makes these bags a statement addition to any outfit. Perfect for a sassy but sophisticated look during a night out on the town.
Perfect Jeans with Tank
Even when August is hot, hot, hot, we tend to start getting our dark jeans back out–even if just for a night out with friends. Flare jeans are a great way to guarantee a flattering silhouette. Paired with this beautiful sleeveless top, with amazing jewelry, proves to be a fabulous outfit for now and will take you through fall–just add a jacket or cardigan! This entire outfit is available at Habit + I See London, on Bandywood Ave.
We know women are picky about their denim — it has to hug in all the right places. But shopping for men’s jeans is rife with its own challenges. Fortunately Emerson Grace, a chic boutique in 12 South, has a great selection of menswear. We were thrilled to find several pairs of denim with great washes by the brands Paige and Citizens of Humanity.
Two Old Hippies keeps a well-curated collection of men’s and women’s apparel and gifts. We love their leather shoes and bags, but this month we have our eye on these cool plaids and prints by the brand 3rd & Army. Comfortable and casual, these shirts can be dressed up or down for any summer occasion.
It can be an ordeal to find a pair of tennis shoes that offers the right amount of support and softness while staying trendy and durable. Although it may be difficult to find the ideal shoe, we discovered that it isn’t so hard to figure out the perfect fit using the experts at Fleet Feet Sports. The trained staff takes the time to go through their “Fitlosophy” with each customer, which includes watching them walk barefoot, picking shoes that fit the individual’s needs, adding the necessary insoles and support and then topping it off with stylish running garb.
White Nail Polish
Embrace the extra color that August has likely added to your complexion, and show it off with a bright white nail. This nail trend popped up strong in 2013 and continues to grow. It’s a cheap, fun way to brighten any look! This Essie classic white, Blanc, can be found at The Cosmetic Market.
Country Star Lipstick
Parlour 3 owner, and makeup artist to several of Nashville’s biggest stars, partnered with Too Faced to created a new color that you are sure to love: Country Star! This peachy-nude is pretty much what we’ve seen on Carrie Underwood for years, now available for the rest of us! Buy it both online or at Parlour 3 or Ulta.
The push to go green has become a lasting movement, and Éminence Organic Skin Care takes this mission seriously. Their newest product, the Citrus & Kale Potent C+E Masque, features a mix of rhubarb extract, leafy greens and avocado oil forms to help minimize the appearance of sun damage, fine lines and wrinkles. So, after a summer in the sun, this product is the perfect remedy. Find it at Lucy Pop Salon.
Travel Sized Suvival Kit
Did you see that Kevin Bacon was in town this past weekend? Yep, and he went by The Thistle Stop Cafe and Instagramed a photo of his latest purchase: a Thistle Farms Survival Kit which includes four 2 oz products in it. This kit includes Body Balm, Body Butter, All-Purpose Soap and Lip Balm and is perfectly packaged for your next plane trip! $25.
FOOD & DRINK
The Well Being juice at The Urban Juicer is the perfect addition to any day. Whether it’s a morning kick-start or afternoon pick-me-up, the superfoods like kale, spinach, apple, ginger and lemon combined in this one cup provide everything you need to be a “well being.” The nutrition-packed boost topped off with a subtle sweetness makes this one of our favorite juices.
Iron Tribe Snacks
Iron Tribe is a brand that has taken fitness to new heights. Devoted to improving endurance and promoting overall health, Iron Tribe offers programs for results-based fitness and offers chef-prepared paleo meals. Our SB staffers rave about Iron Tribe’s seasoned granola and trail mixes. Perfect to grab and go, these tasty snacks deliver flavor and power! We’ve featured one of the grainless granolas before, but there are other snacks to pick up — and you don’t have to be a member to stop by and purchase!
If you are one to shy away from red wine in the summer, you must try the Cuvee du Rosier. Cultivated from 25-year-old vines in Loire Valley, this is a light-bodied red with berry aromas, herbal notes and a crisp, peppery finish. Perfect for pairing with fruits, aged cheeses and assorted meats, this is a spicy sip that transitions easily from summer to fall. Available at Harvest Wine Market for $19.99.
The incredible sale we stumbled upon at Bookman/Bookwoman was impossible to ignore. New books are 20% off, including renowned favorites like The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt. Other books falling under this category range from cookbooks, such as Third Thursday Community Potluck Cookbook, to popular novels like The Fault in Our Stars and Running From Lions. You never know what gem you’ll find here.
