Moms, you know the continual drum that we hear for raising money for our kids’ schools?
We Our children have all likely been asked to sell wrapping paper, bake cookies, sell donuts, hold a car wash, cut box tops, sell candles and more — all in an effort to raise much-needed money for said school or an extracurricular activity like a sport, band or service organization.
While these programs all have their value, I don’t know anyone who gets excited to participate. It’s more like, “Well, here we go again … Grandma can only buy so much chocolate.” This is why I’m so excited for this new way to fundraise, which is painless, and the only thing it requires is for you to download the Planet Fundraiser app, shop as you normally do at the stores you already frequent, and take photos of receipts to upload to the app. That’s it. Truly, this is a total game-changer. Planet Fundraiser takes it from there, and the group you appoint to be the recipient of your raised funds receives a check each month from Planet Fundraiser.
Gone are the days of trying to keep up with each big chain’s charity policy. No need to buy money cards upfront. No need to upload your credit card account to a variety of websites. No need to sell to your friends and family. And no need to cut a box top. Did happy music just start playing in your head? I know … pretty fabulous, right?
There are no catches. This is the real deal. Planet Fundraiser started in Birmingham, Alabama, in 2016 and is now available in 30 states. It’s growing so rapidly and is so successful because they have identified a true pain point, and they’ve addressed it in an easy-to-use app, which is available for both iPhones and Androids alike.
To be a recipient group, you just have to be a 501(c)(3). Thus, if you are reading this and you want your kids’ school to sign up, send this to the office or the head of the Parents’ Association. If there are additional 501(c)(3)s within the school (many times, the marching band, sports teams, etc., are separate 501(c)(3)s), then get them signed up, too.
After that, all you have to do is shop at your favorite stores, see if they are in the Planet Fundraiser app and, if so, upload your receipt (yes, that means you can even pay in cash and still have your favorite non-profit earn money!). If you want a local store to participate and it’s not listed, you can “refer a merchant” via the app. Additionally, you can find participating stores near you via the app, and you can also earn money from online shopping.
And each month, the nonprofit receives a check for the amount of money raised on their behalf by folks shopping and scanning their receipts. It’s like free money! You are shopping anyway, so why not have some of that money go to a nonprofit you are already supporting? Again, it’s a no-brainer.
Spread the word by sharing this with your friends and family and on social media. It makes too much sense not to use and share!
