Guests overlooked the city of Nashville from Aerial‘s rooftop while they awaited Cree Kinnard and Paul Magill’s forthcoming nuptials. As Cree’s father escorted her down the aisle, heads turned and the lively streets of Broadway faded into the background. After exchanging personal vows, these high school sweethearts said “I do,” and when they turned to face their wedding guests as Mr. and Mrs. Paul Magill Jr., their 130 friends and family cheered in delight. Much to the newlyweds’ surprise, their guests weren’t the only ones celebrating with them. “I saw some people pointing to my left, so I looked in that direction. In addition to all of our friends and family supporting and celebrating us, the two rooftop bars across the street were cheering for us, too,” Cree shares. “Once the ceremony began, those bars turned off their music and watched Paul and I get married. When I saw them cheering for us, it felt like the entire city of Nashville was part of the celebration. We felt like small-town celebrities — and that is a feeling I will never forget.”
These small-town celebrities have roots in Nashville. Although they are currently living in Fort Worth, Texas, Nashville always will be their home and the place where their story began. Paul and Cree went to the different Williamson County high schools but, with a mutual love for soccer and both working as soccer referees, the two crossed paths. As it turns out, soccer was only a kick-off point for them. Cree and Paul began dating in the spring of 2006 and spent the next 10 years building their relationship — and their love of fitness. “Paul and I have worked at Camp Gladiator, a bootcamp, for the past couple of years. We have made most of our friends through Camp Gladiator and it is a big part of our lives,” Cree tells us. In the spring of 2015, during a Camp Gladiator class, Paul popped the question. Standing in the middle of the crowd of their fit friends, Paul got down on one knee, and onlookers held signs reading, Will you marry me? “Paul popped the question that I had been waiting for what seemed like forever to hear! I — of course — said, “yes,” and the whole crowed cheered as we kissed,” Cree remembers.
One year after the engagement, the couple headed to Nashville for their wedding. On a warm day in May, the wedding party and décor was bright and cheerful, creating a lively environment. “I started by choosing the suit color,” Cree says of her color scheme. “We definitely did not want black because it is too formal … We landed on gray suits, which seemed perfect for an early-summer wedding! Then, we just needed a color for the bridesmaids. I wanted something bright and colorful, and coral seemed like the obvious choice. We took that color scheme to our florist — and she ran with it!” The colors popped against the city’s skyline and it was the views of downtown that sold the couple on the venue. “A rooftop in downtown sounded like the perfect way to showcase our beautiful hometown,” Cree shares of selecting Aerial for their wedding.
Donning a strapless mermaid-style dress, Cree stood out among her bridesmaids, who were clad in coral, and the groomsmen in gray. For something old and borrowed, Cree wore her mother’s earrings that she’d worn at her own wedding; her “something new” was her wedding dress; for something blue, she wore a sapphire ring gifted to her by her mother upon graduating Auburn University. Needless to say, she took Paul’s breath away.
After the ceremony, the bar opened to guests, who were served fresh libations as they enjoyed small bites. “We served artichoke parmesan bruschetta and smoked beef brisket crostini with creamy barbecue sauce. My favorite were the ham and swiss pinwheels with honey mustard cream cheese!” Drinks were followed by a buffet dinner of Caesar salad, roasted tenderloin, smoked and pulled chicken, green beans and mashed potatoes.
As tradition goes, dancing was next up on the agenda. The newlyweds opened the dance floor after their first dance to “I Won’t Give Up” by Jason Mraz.
Cheers to you, Mr. and Mrs. Magill!
