Trend: Metallic Shadow
As we move into fall, consider replacing your nude and matte shades of summer for something with sparkle and shine. “Metallic makes every look rich and glowing,” Mary Kathryn tells us. “The key this season is on texture, not color. You want metallic not glitter.” For the more timid among us, opt for soft colors in neutral shades. For the adventurous, go bold with a blue eyeshadow. “Depending on the color, this look is perfect for day or night.” To apply, lightly brush the metallic shadow in the crease of your eyes, or use it all over the eyelid.
Mauve and rose look great on eyes, cheeks and lips. “It is the perfect neutral for fall, and it complements most skin tones,” Mary Kathryn says. “You can wear this beautiful shade alone or together for a perfect coordinating look.” Think of mauve and rose as replacements for the light pinks and corals of summer. On lips, mauve adds more interest than a nude, but isn’t as dramatic as a plum. This trend is so wearable that you can rock it during the day and all through the night.
Trend: Plum or Deep Berry Lip
Move over red, there’s a new lip color in town. For fall, plum and deep berry are replaced the reds and corals you have grown so accustomed to. Mix things up by incorporating these colors into your regular rotation. The trick with all statement lips is to balance it out with a simple beauty look. “Keep all other makeup subtle, and focus on perfecting your skin. Minimal blush and eyes are the key to getting this look right,” Mary Kathryn instructs. “You can go for full matte coverage or sheer, depending on what you are comfortable with.”
If you dread the last bit of tan leaving your face, replace your summer glow with the use of a highlighter and luminizer. “This fall and winter, give yourself a light-from-within glow. Replace over-contouring and give your skin a healthy glow with highlighter. Use on your cheek bones, the inner corner of the eye and the cupids bow,” Mary Kathryn says. When you are in a pinch, this will leave you looking put together, and when you have more time, it pairs perfectly with a plum lip.
While each of these trends can stand on their own, there is also an opportunity to combine them. In the video below, Mary Kathryn shows us how to marry highlighter with a plum lip.
Embrace these looks, and enjoy the confidence your fresh, new look brings!
