Don’t you feel flattered when someone asks you where you get your hair cut or where you bought your top? It may be a bit superficial, but we all get a little high out of such a compliment. So, why then do many of us hold back? Make someone’s day and give into your curiosity and ask that cute lady about what she has on. I rolled down the passenger window last year to tell the lady next to me how much I loved her top. It was heather grey with ruching at the shoulders. So cute. She smiled huge and said, “You won’t believe this. I just got it at WALMART. It was $10. They are running low so you better go now if you want one!” She was darling and driving the full size gold Lexus SUV with a $100,000 rock on her finger and Channel sunglasses. I find it funny how we Southern women have NO PROBLEM telling each other that something is from Walmart, or Target or TJ Maxx and we somehow feel so empowered by such a purchase. My friends in other regions giggle and tell me that NO ONE admits to this around them. Is this true? Scandalous if it is.
Ten days ago, I took my fact finding mission a bit farther than I have before. I was watching the Today Show as my kids wanted to see Katy Perry singing in the Plaza. Right after she sang, Meredith Viera interviewed New York Times reporter Julie Scelfo (about an article she had recently written about the differences in opinion on the acceptability of naked children in the home) and she was wearing the most beautiful teal top. I couldn’t take my eyes off of it. With today’s High Def TV’s, you really can see the detail of clothing so well and I was entranced. I wanted that top! So, I decided to track down this reporter and find out exactly who made this top and where she got it. I emailed Julie and, gem that she is, she responded back with the needed information.
It’s not a bargain blouse by any means. And, quite frankly, if I were being interviewed my Meredith Viera, I too would be wearing a $200+ blouse. The blouse is from the Fall 2009 Rebecca Taylor collection and retails for $225. While Julie bought it at Diane T in Brooklyn, you can find it locally at Habit, located in the Courtyard at Bandywood.
