Jessie Baylin: A Local Musician You Need on Your Playlist

Liza Graves

We’re excited to write this post as, incredibly enough, it is our first music post. Here in Music City, we have oddly overlooked a huge segment of style: music.  So, we are kicking off monthly posts on MUSIC with Jessie Baylin.  These posts will all feature a local musician or local music enthusiast who will compile a playlist for us to share.

I admit it: I am IN NO WAY a music junkie.  I love the power of music and how it can set a mood, fill a void and provide moments of escape unlike anything else.  But, I’m lazy when it comes to finding new music, especially local music.  If you are too, perhaps these monthly music posts can help us both find some new artists that we can start following.

Jessie Baylin is often compared to Norah Jones which is fair, but Baylin has a voice that is all her own. And I love the strong guitar that appears in most of Baylin’s songs. She credit’s “the influence of the honesty and intensity of such classic jazz and pop divas as Joni Mitchell, Stevie Nicks, Billie Holiday and Nina Simone, whose influence would later inform her own singing.” (from Baylin’s website)  Baylin’s music is instantly engaging.  My husband and 11 year old daughter both came in to ask who was singing while I was listening to this playlist.

To find out more about Jessie. Go to her website: www.jessiebaylin.com You’ll read just how impressive this singer/songwriter is.  Next time you have friends over, create a playlist with Jessie Baylin among the mix.

Jessie happens to be a newly wed which makes Tennessee Gem even more fun to listen to!  (It’s the last song on this playlist, so be sure to listen!)

In the meantime, I hope you enjoy listening to some of her music with this playlist.  You can hit “play all 7” at the bottom to hear all selections seamlessly.  (Note: link has been removed.)
