Right now I feel proud — Nashville’s own Anne Byrn, better known as the Cake Mix Doctor, is being featured on QVC on Tuesday to introduce her new cake mix. Seriously, do you know anyone who started a company out of her kitchen and has gained so much notoriety in such a short time?
Her goal as a best selling cookbook author is to make our lives easier by supplying us with simple recipes and compelling menu ideas to save us time and energy when it comes to being queens of domesticity. With her simple ingenuity, Anne has taken store-bought mixes and simple crock-pot dinners and turned them into meals that taste like they took all day to create.
Anne began by teaching millions how to improve store-bought cake mixes and with one simple step, turn an everyday, 30-minute dessert into a delectable treat. Tomorrow, Nov. 16, she will be featured on QVC to debut her brand-new cake mix. QVC has a feature every day, and tomorrow, the feature will be Anne’s cake mix. While in the past, she has offered one-step and two-step additions to mixes for an amazing dessert, starting tomorrow, she offers an amazing dessert, with no extra steps. That is when we will be able to buy the Cake Mix Doctor’s personal cake mix. In other words, we get the good doctor’s good mix – no extra steps, just great mixes and great desserts. Way to go, Anne.
Both Liza and I were so intrigued with her new cake mix, we asked to get a couple of boxes in advance and headed to the StyleBlueprint test kitchen.
OK, I am going to make a huge admission to the you, my dear readers: I can not bake worth a damn, and for the life of me, I can’t figure out what I am doing wrong. I measure the ingredients precisely and bake the cake according to the directions, but sadly, my cakes never measure up. This cake mix may be my only chance to compete with my buddies’ homemade cakes.
Here is what I love about her new cake mix — it is made with all natural ingredients and literally, rises to twice the size of any boxed cake mix and it doesn’t have that weird taste of a typical boxed cake. I’m not sure how to describe the taste, but it truly tastes as if it is made “from scratch.” The yellow cake mix calls for real butter, an addition which improves the flavor of the cake dramatically.
Here are a couple of comments from the family about the cake– “rich, moist, real intense chocolate flavor, better than you usually make”
I think you will be pleasantly surprised by the end result.
Liza also made the yellow cake Sunday night and this is what she says:
Liza – “So, Elizabeth says she can’t bake worth a damn. Well, whatever is lower than that is me as a baker. For example, tonight when baking this cake, it calls for only three ingredients to be added: 1 1/4 cup of warm milk, 3 eggs and a 1 1/2 sticks of butter. Well, I was on the phone trying to multi-task (of course) and thus I put in 1 1/2 cups of milk and 2 full sticks of butter. Yes, I managed to screw up the cake doctor’s cake mix. But, guess what? Even though my kids were like, “Um, this is really runny batter….” we forged ahead and decided to bake it as cupcakes. They were the best darn cupcakes I ever baked! I did sneak a bite (even though I’m really not supposed to eat gluten, but I can handle small amounts and this one bite was heaven.) My kids kept going on and on about how great the cupcakes were and I can’t imagine them tasting any better, so they must be slap-yourself-silly when made correctly. They taste “right.” I guess that’s what happens when you go all-natural with no preservatives or food dyes. THANK YOU, ANNE!”
Anne has sold millions of copies of her cookbooks, and tomorrow she will be selling her cake mix on QVC. The QVC special will offer three boxes of vanilla mix and a new frosting cookbook for a low price. I’m thinking her mix won’t last long before selling out. With help and support from her local fans who like to bake or eat delicious cakes, she will sell out in no time. Ladies, this is a call to action: buy this cake mix tomorrow so we can prove the power of the virtual world. Check out QVC online: http://www.qvc.com/
Thankfully, when she does sell out, her mix will be available online at www.cakemixdoctor.com along with all of her cookbooks, including the new gluten-free book.
To this wonderful Nashville woman who taught us how to make perfect cake from simple mixes and has now provided us with her own perfect mix: I thank you for making my life yummier.
