Let’s face it – everyday tween dressing is hard. Harder still is a party dress. So many of the dresses are just too mature. By mature, I mean, well, um, revealing, tacky and in poor taste. Whew. So, what’s a mom to do? Cotillion is flooded with sixth grade girls all needing party dresses and 13 year old girls are sometimes having birthdays or bat mitzvah’s that require a party dress. Throw in the upcoming Christmas concerts and services and we thought it would be nice to highlight a store that we refer to time and time again as a great place to shop for tweens in Nashville: Snap. Snap is locally owned and the clothes are specifically picked to be ones that tweens love and are mommy approved. Snap carries sizes from newborn – 16.
As we were preparing for this post, I ran into Rebecca Thompson of the wardrobe consultation duo Tina+Rebecca. She was on her way to Snap to shop with her 12 year old daughter. There’s an endorsement for you! The total wardrobe maven that she is, I asked Rebecca to take a couple shots of her favorite dresses on her precious daughter Anna:
The very next day, Elizabeth hit Snap with her 10 year old daughter and some of her tween friends to see what party dresses the girls loved. Snap even brought in their professional photographer, Matt Muller – who does commercial and private photo shoots – to make the girls feel like total superstars with the artsy shots featured below. A fun time was had by all, and we hope you get some great ideas from this post. Shopping can be fun when you are not having to fight the crap that just seems to be pushed on our girls at every turn. So, set aside some time, eat lunch at Zoe’s, get a gelato at Whole Foods and head to Snap. With a budget understood by all, you can have a wonderful outing with your daughter and come home feeling like the rock star mom that you are!
Snap also just got in a whole slew of Nicole Miller dresses sized 7/8-16. As this is a boutique, there is just one of each size….so hurry in!
By the way, I love that you can “pre-shop” Snap before you come in with your daughter and talk to the sales girls about what you are looking for. Then, when your daughter comes in, they can be the one to lead your daughter to the dresses with which you are most comfortable. They know and we know: sometimes the nod from the sales girl means far more than the nod from mom! Why do they do this? Because that is the service you should get at a LOCAL store! Have fun!
Snap Kids is located in the Hill Center- Green Hills.
