I’m not sure what else to call it. The clinical name is the SmartSkin CO2 fractional laser. It basically puts you out of commission for four days, but it does leave you with skin like a baby. And, your skin keeps getting better and better, producing more and more collagen for over the next three months. I got this done at Trace Skin Care, under the care of Tracey Harris. Most people do this procedure three times; I only did it one time. I will do it a second time, but I’m not sure I’ll need a third time. So, all the pictures of me in this post are from ONE session.
Here are a couple UV damage photos – you know, the kind that show all that damage UNDER your skin as well as ON your skin. These show pre and post laser:
First off, I’m not the ideal candidate to have dramatic results with this laser. I was 37 when I had it done and, through genetics, I have the lovely ability to not do too much to my skin and still have it look pretty good. I was concerned mostly about all the sunspots that seemed to be darkening, multiplying and not going away. My skin also had started to look a little tired and my products just weren’t making my skin bounce back like they used to do. I felt like my skin needed a big ol’ refresher. Well, this procedure came through and made my skin look better than any amount of expensive product on the market could have. I’m still a product girl. But now, I feel like the products are working on a fresher canvas and hopefully penetrating more.
So, you know I’m going to show you more of these crazy bad pictures of myself. I have no shame so here goes:
I washed my face before these shots and I WISH I had taken more time to put my eyebrow hairs back in their proper spot!
It took about three weeks post-laser to really have people commenting on my skin. Sure enough, about three weeks out, I heard over and over, “You look great. Your skin looks fantastic.” I knew at that point that this was a great thing. This next set of pictures shows my tighter skin and how the little wrinkles around my eyes were reduced. Again, I know my “issues” were not bad to start with. But, when Tracey offered to give me this SmartSkin fractional laser treatment to see if I thought it was a good StyleBlueprint story, I, OF COURSE, said, “I’m game.” She knew fully well that the story might never be written if I didn’t think the laser was worth the price.
The treatment is more than a thousand dollars for round one, and decreases significantly for rounds two and three. Again, I only had one round and I know I’ve wasted far more money on “hope in a bottle” products.
So, with makeup, almost two months after one laser treatment, I’m thrilled with my skin:
When I was getting a facial last month, the aesthetician, whom I had never seen before, asked if I had received a CO2 laser treatment. I said, “Yes. How did you know that?” She said, “Your skin is pretty flawless and the lack the sun damage evident made me think perhaps you had. Everyone I see who has had this treatment has great skin. I’m only 26 and now I want it done from just seeing the results on my table each week!”
Other patients of Tracey’s and their before and after pictures:
Here is Gail:
I will tell you that I got my laser treatment done on a Wednesday afternoon and I did not feel comfortable leaving my house until Sunday evening. And, you have to slather Vasoline all over your face so my blemish-prone skin did get some clogged pores. But by Sunday night, I really was looking pretty good and we had dinner out.
OK – I know you want more pictures. Here is another client of Trace Skin Care who had been very concerned about the lines between her upper lip and her nose. She had used a lot of products and the lines were better, but she was still unhappy with them. Check out what the CO2 precision laser accomplished:
So, how bad is the healing process? Well, my husband came into our dark bedroom to say good morning the day after I had this done. He said, “I’d kiss you, but you scare me.” Yep, I was pretty scary looking. And my skin is more sensitive now to sunlight so I treat it like baby skin. I never forget my sunscreen and I was even scared to used my Clarisonic for a full four weeks out. The first 48 hours stink and you don’t even want to be near a window. You can not drive. But, you end up with quick and great results. I can only imagine how great three sessions would be. Oh – Tracey can change the intensity of the laser depending on what your specific needs are. I went pretty much all out as I thought, “Why not?”
So, if you want to reveal some new skin which is firmer and smoother…and keeps getting better for three months before becoming your new norm, I really do suggest talking to your skin care specialist about the CO2 precision laser. Elizabeth thinks she’s getting it done in January.
Feel free to email me with any questions as I’ll be brutally honest about all of this. Yes, I recommend it. However, you really do need to clear your calendar for four days. And, you need to realize that on day five you might be disappointed with the results as you still have three months of transforming ahead of you. But for me, three weeks out was proof that my four days of hiding in my house was worth it.
