Instead of focusing on simply the best places to eat barbecue, today we give you our list of the best barbecue places to use when you are wanting takeout or catering. Summer is in full swing, the Fourth of July is next week; and barbecue is a cheap way to feed a crowd. In a city suddenly sauced on the title “Best BBQ in the USA,” we give you some obvious choices and perhaps some that you’ll want to try for the first time. We debated the list endlessly but after a straw poll of our own favorites, cross-referenced with foodie site ratings, customer reviews and catering options, we have narrowed it down to a solid ten. Peg Leg Porker
This Bar-B-Que joint has quickly developed a cult following from local foodies. Located near the Gulch, Peg Leg Porker is equipped to cater large gatherings or intimate parties. Their menu is the best of the basics. The ribs are popular and we love their snacks including our favorite homemade pimento cheese and sausage, all served with saltines. You can order their items a la carte or create a per person menu which includes plates and serving ware.
Martin’s BBQ Joint
With founding locations in Nolensville and Mt. Juliet, Martin’s has since spread to locations on Belmont and Downtown Nashville. Prized for their pork tacos, crisp coleslaw, and great sauces, Martin’s offers great family packs for pick up. All of their smoked meats can be purchased by the pound, and their sides can be bought by the gallon. Martin’s offers onsite catering from their Nashville location for parties of 18 or more.
Edley’s Bar-B-Que
Everybody raves about Edley’s wings, and for good reason. With porches in 12 South, East Nashville and now Sylvan Park, Edley’s is a popular spot for summer dining but it’s is a choice place for catering, too. They make great meal packages that include a meat and your choice of two or three sides, cornbread or buns, and serving ware (they also offer sliders which are great for parties!). They request more than 24 hours notice for parties of 20 or more and can also provide servers upon request.
Hog Heaven
Tucked off West End in Centennial Park, Hog Heaven is beloved by locals for their hickory smoked BBQ, traditional Southern vegetables, and “famous white sauce.” Hog Heaven has catered events of all sizes from tailgating parties of 5,000 to wedding receptions to small backyard parties. Hog Heaven is popular for pick-up, but delivery and full-service catering is available for extra charge.
Papa Turney’s
This Cajun-inspired BBQ joint is now located in the Nashville Shores Marina in Hermitage. Dedicated to quality food and customer service, Papa Turney’s offers on-site catering and is a great choice for small parties and large events. You can create custom orders online from their menu which includes meat and delicious southern sides.
Tex’s World Famous Bar-B-Q
If true Texas BBQ is what you seek, head to Tex’s on Foster Ave. These smoke masters have been in business for over 30 years making them one of the oldest BBQ restaurants in Nashville. Call and pick up or create a custom menu for an office party, luncheon or event and have it delivered to your door. Make it a feast and try the barbecue baloney and homemade cobblers — you won’t regret it!
Jack’s Bar-B-Que
Known for their diverse menu, which includes St. Louis style ribs, Boston turkey, Texas sausage and Tennessee pork shoulder, Jack’s offers a great spread for parties and events, and with locations on Broadway, Charlotte and Trinity Lane, it is convenient for nearly every crowd. Owned and operated by Cawthon’s Caterers Inc., Jack’s delivers full-service on-site catering. They also offer a private dining room located on Broadway which offers custom menus for events.
Smokies BBQ + Burgers
South Nashville’s favorite barbecue joint offers meals for lunch as well as party packs to make family dinner or your next event a piece of cake. Try the brisket sandwich or a classic meat-and-three plate. Go hungry and leave happy!
