October in Memphis is high season for festivals and special events. Though there are plenty of things going on in town we selected three special events to highlight this month and keep you up to speed on what to wear in Memphis in October: the tasty Vin-A-Que at the Brooks Museum, Art on Fire at the Dixon Gallery & Gardens, and the laidback River Arts Fest on South Main. We asked our friends at Lavish, Heather and Sorelle for some ideas of what to wear, and they produced several stylish looks to don for these occasions. Enjoy!
What to Wear in Memphis: October 2015
The Event: Vin-A-Que, Brooks Museum — Friday, October 2
Memphis barbecue is famous around the world, and from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Vin-A-Que, you can taste traditional and nontraditional faire at an art museum. In addition to the great food, you can enjoy live music on the Brushmark terrace, as well as wines from Cornerstone, beer and spirits. Tickets are $80-$100 and can be purchased at brooksmuseum.org.
What to wear? Well, it is barbecue, so don’t go too nice, okay? But, it’s at the Brooks and you will be seen and possibly photographed, so you want to you’ll want to don some stylish clothes! We think adding boots to your outfit, either knee high, over-the-knee or bootie, will make any outfit perfect for this fun event.
The Event: River Arts Fest, South Main Arts District — October 23-25
Come down to the historic South Main Arts District for the region’s largest fine arts festival. In its ninth year, River Arts Fest features 180 artists from around the country, as well as music on three stages, food, and beverages. Admission is free on Friday night and $5 on Saturday and Sunday. The festival runs 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Find more information at riverartsmemphis.org.
What to wear? You’ll want to wear comfortable clothing to allow you to walk and walk and walk! You may want to dance to the live music and may even find yourself eating while standing … so take all those things into account. Usually by the end of October it’s cool enough for jeans even in the heat of the day, so that’s what we’ve relied on today.
The Event: Art on Fire, Dixon Gallery & Gardens — Saturday, October 24
Held at 7 p.m. on the South Lawn of the Dixon Gallery & Gardens, Art on Fire includes live entertainment and over 30 participating restaurants. Admission includes food, beer, and wine. Tickets are $60 for members, $75 for nonmembers. More information can be found at dixon.org.
What to wear? Such a fun event where you can work the crowd and all the food options as well! Wear your Saturday night specials, but not cocktail special, got it? Your shoes need to be comfortable enough to walk in and stand in for a few hours. And remember that “South Lawn” means grass, so don’t choose a heel that you would hate to get a little dirt on. That’s our tip to enjoying this fabulous event!
