Fall has officially arrived, and it is bringing with it cooler temperatures, changing leaves and plenty of fun October events! We’ve picked out three fabulous happenings around Memphis this month, and we enlisted Memphis-based wardrobe stylist, image consultant and fashion expert extraordinaire Lauren Draffin of Styled by LD to determine what to wear. While the hair experts at Pavo Salon Spa, Matt Gossett of About Face Artistry and Emily Epperson worked their magic to make our models shine, Lauren chose each of these looks from Oak Hall and Kittie Kyle, topped off with some gorgeous jewels from Mednikow Jewelers.
This edition of What to Wear is special, as each one of the models is a representative from the top six charities in our $5,000 charitable giveaway, graciously sponsored by Mednikow Jewelers. Today’s models are Lauren Coles, a volunteer at Imminent Danger German Shepherd Rescue; Betty Dupont, Executive Director of Hope House; Jennifer Taylor, President of The Junior League of Memphis; Ruby Bright, Executive Director and CAO of Women’s Foundation for a Greater Memphis; Lynn Dittman, a volunteer at Belly Rubs Basset Rescue; and Terrian Bass, an original AngelStreet member. These women contribute so much to the Memphis community, and we were grateful for the opportunity to pamper them and have some extra-girly fun!
This week, Mednikow presented the $5,000 prize to Imminent Danger German Shepherd Rescue, a no-kill, all-volunteer organization whose members are passionate about finding homes for homeless, lost, neglected or abandoned German Shepherd dogs. Congratulations to all six organizations for progressing to the final rounds! We so appreciate everything you do to lift up our city.

Enjoy an evening with Opera Memphis for their performance of La Traviata. Lavish parties, forbidden love, betrayal and death — sounds like the theater, alright! It is sure to be a fabulous production, so don’t miss it.
What to Wear? Wear something dramatic to complement the occasion — statement pieces and striking garments are in order. Stylist Lauren Draffin shows us how to bring elegance and glamour to your look with jaw-dropping jewelry to boot!
Ruby Bright, Executive Director and CAO of Women’s Foundation for a Greater Memphis
“We had all the feels of ‘elegant glam’ with this fancy number from Kittie Kyle,” says Lauren. “Navy shimmer, lace-and-floral appliqué, bell sleeves and draping jewels perfectly accommodate these velvet, mustard heels from Oak Hall.”
Terrian Bass, Original AngelStreet Member
“‘Structure’ became the overall goal for this elegant look,” says Lauren. “Our hair experts at Pavo styled beautiful braids into a geometrical up-do, and this velvet, structured blush silhouette from Oak Hall was the perfect dress to accompany this rocker-chic glam ensemble. And the final touch — pearls from Mednikow.”
The Event: Memphis Food & Wine Festival

Then, sample sips of wine from vintners, certified sommeliers and enlightening wine enthusiasts while you dance to the music of a live band.
What to Wear? This event features the best of the culinary world, so why not wear the best of the fashion world? From subdued, classic looks to colorful, fashion-forward looks, Lauren shows us how to elevate your look through texture and color.
Lynn Dittman, Volunteer for Belly Rubs Basset Rescue
“This ensemble was crafted for an elegant woman. Pair a textured, high-waisted pencil skirt with a classic, neutral turtleneck, and ‘classy’ is the look you will achieve,” says Lauren. “These separates from Oak Hall lend structure and femininity for a formal approach to fall fashion.”
Lauren Coles, Volunteer for Imminent Danger German Shepherd Rescue
“Playing within similar, yet different prints is right on trend this season, as our model so gracefully models for us,” says Lauren. “The delicate floral sleeves and bold pops of color make this coordinating outfit the perfect transition from day to night, as well as seasonal as we step into fall.”
The Event: Art on Fire at The Dixon
- Saturday, October 21, 2017
- 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.
- Tickets are $60 for Dixon members and $75 for non-members.
- For more information, visit dixon.org.
Head to the Dixon for a festive fall party under the stars. Grab your friends and gather around a roaring bonfire, snack on fabulous food and listen to live music, then peruse the art sale and silent auction.
What to Wear? It’s an art party, so don’t be afraid to be bold! Lauren gives us two looks that will sparkle before the bonfire and dazzle in the art gallery!
Dr. Jennifer Taylor, President of Junior League of Memphis
“Red nails, bold makeup and lashes added the perfect ‘pop’ to this coordinating black pant suit and sequin jacket,” says Lauren. “And look at those diamonds!”
Betty Dupont, Executive Director of Hope House
“This sleek, camel leather jacket adds a little edge to a more streamlined style, which fit perfectly into our ‘elegant glam’ theme,” says Lauren. “Navy ankle slacks paired with a neutral, sparkled sweater keeps this outfit chic and streamlined, while elongating any body style. Add a little sass to any outfit like this with a ruffled, suede mule, and you’re right on trend for the season.”
