August in Memphis and the mid-South means continuing sky-high temperatures and sweltering humidity. But don’t hunker down and hibernate until winter. There are plenty of cool events during the upcoming month where you should make an appearance. We asked expert stylists at The Attic, Sorelle and Indigo to give us a hand in dressing you for a few select occasions.
EVENT: Beauty and the Business Empowerment Conference — Sunday, August 16
Held at the Jay Etkin Gallery on South Cooper Street and presented by Phillip Ashley Chocolates, the Beauty and the Business Empowerment Conference offers education for the intersection of beauty, lifestyle and business. Hear from business leaders, creative professionals and brand strategists from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on August 16. General admission is $25, and more information can be found at beautyandthebusinessconference.com.
Monochromatic is always a good choice for style, and The Attic provides this with a white Blue Pepper top, $38; taupe “tummy tuck” Lisette pants, $112; taupe Butterfly Twist rhinestone flats, $48, and a taupe Coco + Carmen handbag, $65.
Sorelle gives us a cute business casual look with a white Love Token top, $124; black Baci pants, $144; black Hobo bag, $248, and Sophia necklace, $88.
Indigo gives us some sleek pieces to don at the Beauty and the Business Empowerment Conference, including black, slim-fit, distressed AG jeans, $225; a cream and black BB Dakota faux leather jacket, $105, and cream Free People leather flats, $198.
EVENT: Paw Prints Party — Saturday, August 22
From 5:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. on August 22, the Humane Society of Memphis & Shelby County will host the 2015 Paw Prints Party at the Racquet Club of Memphis. Individual tickets are $150, and include a seated dinner, open bar, live music by Front & Beale, live and silent auctions, and a wine pull. Find more info at memphishumane.org.
We contacted the Humane Society to ask what the preferred mode of dress would be for this multifaceted event, and they said guests will wear everything from smart casual to cocktail, but if in doubt, err on the side of dressy. Have fun choosing your outfit with these ideas from The Attic, Sorelle and Indigo, but most importantly, don’t miss a chance to join in and raise money for the purrfect cause!
Instead of the trusty little black dress, how about the on-trend, sophisticated jumpsuit? From The Attic, a Caribbean Queen jumpsuit, $65; star-pattern scarf, $15; a large Handbag Butler purse, $112; a Seven Lucky Stones necklace, $88, and Ann Michelle pumps, $39.
This silk dress by LAmade, $138, has a flattering halter neckline and can easily be paired with accessories to dress it up or down. For this event, we suggest suede shoes by Sacha London, $83; a gold metallic necklace, $76, and gold metallic handbag by Whiting & Davis, $126. This combo is available at Sorelle.
Indigo adds funky flair to a white Karlie dress, $108, by adding a brown suede fringe Tart Collections vest, $238; smart Frye boots, $348; Jessica Elliot necklace, $70, and Hat Attack NY hat, $92.50.
