It’s August, which means the kids are going back to school and vacations are wrapping up but worry not: We have quite a few fun activities left to enjoy before summer is over. It is time for the highly anticipated Elvis Week, the Boys and Girls Club Tennis Invitational Bracket Bash and a brand new event, the Memphis Film Prize Festival, in Midtown. We stopped by Heather, Lori James and More Therapy for some gorgeous choices for these happenings and any other event on your horizon.
The Event: Boys and Girls Club Tennis Invitational Bracket Bash
- Friday, August 12, 2016
- At the Lexus of Memphis at Ridgeway
- Free but registration is required; learn more and sign up here.
What to wear: The Tennis Invitational is a two-day event (August 12-13) that includes silent and live auctions, tennis tournament and the Bloody Mary & Mimosa Awards Luncheon after the event. We went to some local boutiques to find outfits for the cocktail event on Friday, August 12, the evening before the tournament. The Bracket Bash is a social gathering full of great food, drinks and entertainment, and you can wear something sleek and classy that shows off your style or go for a more fun and funky look.
The Event: The 2016 Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Finals
- Saturday, August 13, 2016, at 7 p.m.
- At the Orpheum Theatre Memphis
- Two-day tickets for semi-final and final round performances are $69; one-day tickets for the final round performance are $49.

What to wear: For many Elvis impersonators, this annual event is the most sought-after of Elvis Presley titles. Twenty-four of the best Elvis impersonators from around the world travel to Memphis to compete for the Ultimate Elvis Tribute title. The finals will be held at the Orpheum Theatre in Downtown Memphis, hosted by Joey Sulipeck of Fox 13. We have some gorgeous outfits chosen for this event — from blue suede (shoes!) to a Hawaiian print kimono.
The Event: Memphis Film Prize Festival
- Friday, Saturday and Sunday, August 12-14, 2016
- Malco’s Studio on the Square
- Tickets are $32.49; a VIP weekend pass is $158.49
- Find more information here
What to wear: This month is the inaugural Memphis Film Prize Festival at Studio on the Square in Midtown. Ten short films made in Shelby County will be screened for festival-goers over the weekend but only one will be chosen as the winner of a $10,000 cash prize. The really interesting part of this festival is that you get to vote on the winner. Not only will you see some amazing local films, you also get to choose who takes home the prize. This weekend will be casual and fun, so we found some cute, boho-themed outfits from which to choose.
Enjoy these last days of summer and stay cool!
