Meet three stylish Memphis-area ladies. They are store managers, buyers and stylists at local boutiques who see the season’s newest looks first. All of them are having fun opening up boxes filled with on-trend inventory for Spring 2014:
Katy Murphy at Southern Couture: Welcome Katy, manager and jewelry/accessories buyer for Southern Couture in Regalia Shopping Center. Southern Couture is boutique shopping at its best, offering both classic pieces and cutting edge fashion. Here are a few of her favorits trends for the coming season. regaliacenter.com/Shopping/SouthernCouture
Color blocking is not entirely new, but look for bolder arrangements of color panels. Experimenting is in, and silhouettes are often divided vertically instead of horizontally this spring.
Understated Statement Necklace
The understated statement necklace is popular this year. Couture designers still want to add that fabulous piece at the neckline, but with a toned down, less colorful approach this year.
Sporty casual combinations are in for spring and summer. You will even see sneakers with heels! The sailor-esque, preppy style of these striped shorts will fit this trend in a variety of ways. Show off the gold buttons by wearing a shirt tucked in to the slightly higher waistline, or loosen the look up a bit with an untucked top.
The cornflower blue of this scarf is a favorite color for the spring 2014 palette.
Julie Lansky, Lansky Brothers: Julie also has trend advice for us today. Julie is the buyer for all four Lansky Brothers’ stores: Lansky 126 contemporary denim boutique for men and women, Lansky at The Peabody for men, The Lucky Duck Gifts, and their newest addition, Lansky accessories and jewelry. All Lansky stores are located in the Peabody downtown. Julie is a third-generation member of this fashion-forward family known for being Elvis’ favorite clothier! lanskybros.com
Ray-Bans are always in style, and Lansky offers 40 different styles from this brand, all shapes and sizes to suit your face shape.
The band at the base of this loose-fitting top is a popular design choice this spring. This style is especially easy to wear if you are tall.
Update your basic white jeans with texture. Hard to see in a photograph, but these pants have a crackled texture that makes them stand out from basic white jeans.
Layer your bracelets and cuffs for a smart casual touch.
The denim jacket, even denim on denim on denim, is on trend right now.
Graphic T-shirts with jeans are always in style, but consider wearing your statement cotton top with a dressier skirt or pants, perfect for a concert or night out on Beale! Rock and roll styles are part of Lansky’s DNA, given their history, so they are always ready to fill a need for this eclectic trend.
Comfort is a trend that consumers insist on more and more each year. Lysse, known for their comfortable leggings, has now added skirts to their repertoire. This black lace skirt (below) has a 5-inch contoured waistband for tummy control and is designed to match the comfort of their popular leggings.
This handmade necklace is, again, an understated statement piece. It can be worn long or doubled. Top it off with a hat—the bigger, the better this season.
Anna Reed, Lavish: Thank you to Anna, stylist at Lavish Boutique in Collierville, for filling us in on a few of this season’s best ideas. Sporty chic is done well by Hard Tail, a new athletic and lounge-wear brand that Lavish is excited about. Lavish has a broad selection of styles from Hard Tail including sweaters, casual tops, pullovers, yoga pants, leggings and maxi skirts. This collection brings fresh colors, textures and patterns to the exercise-to-errands trend. With spring on the way, start folding your black leggings away and brighten up with more colorful options. And Hard Tail tops are ideal for layering and match up with everything from leggings to jeans. This California-based line is known for its delightful color palette, soft fabrics and signature design elements that are rooted in the southern California lifestyle.
With all of our trend talk, it is important to note that a classic is always a wise choice. Our spring color blocking trend is subtly demonstrated by this Bailey 44 dress, new for spring at Lavish, but its classic shape and neutral color combo make this dress a year-round wardrobe essential that will last well beyond any seasonal trend.
Again, we appreciate our talented trend advisors today. Ask for Katy at Southern Couture in the Regalia, Julie at any of the four Lansky stores downtown or Anna at Lavish in Collierville.
