Choosing the proper wine for a Thanksgiving meal just got easier. We asked not just one expert, but an entire family of experts, what wine pairings they recommend for the annual turkey feast. Lindsay Smith, manager at Wine Market, along with her family — all career wine experts — take the guesswork out of your Thanksgiving wine pairings this year by sharing their top choices. Welcome, Lindsay!
In the Smith family, wine is always a conversation topic. My name is Lindsay Smith, and I’m a manager at Wine Market. My dad, Scott Smith, is the owner of Wine Market in East Memphis. He has had a career in the wine and liquor business in Memphis for more than 30 years, working in both retail and wholesale positions. My mom, Patty Smith, has worked at Buster’s for more than 30 years. My older brother, Jake, is a wine sales representative for high-end wines in Memphis. Needless to say, when we cook together, the wine pairing is always a big discussion.
When StyleBlueprint asked us to choose some wines to pair with Thanksgiving dinner, it seemed obvious that we should make it a family affair. Thanksgiving is a time to enjoy your family and friends — and in our family, we all gather around wine. So we each chose a wine that we enjoy for our annual Thanksgiving meal to share with you!
Scott’s pick: Jansz Premium Cuvee Tasmanian Sparkling Wine
This is the perfect affordable sparkler to sip on while cooking or to hand to arriving guests. Make your Thanksgiving toast with this tasty bubbly! $26.99
Patty’s pick: Pewsey Vale Eden Valley Australian Dry Riesling
This Riesling is completely dry, but has very prominent peach and pear flavors and aromas. $18.99
Jake’s pick: Ridge Lytton Springs Zinfandel
This is a perfectly composed masterpiece of spice and black fruit from an iconic California winery. This bold, heavy wine stands up to the variety of flavors featured in a Thanksgiving meal. $36.99
Lindsay’s pick: Hedges Family Estate Red Mountain Syrah
This heavy wine features earthy flavors of dark blueberries, spices and herbs. It perfectly complements the herbs and spices that are found in a traditional turkey dressing. $29.99
All of the recommended wines are available at the Wine Market. Stop in for your well-planned selection and say hello to the Smiths! Thank you, Lindsay, for taking us behind the scenes to the Smith family table for expert wine pairing suggestions!
