White Claw. Truly. Mighty Swell. The list goes on and on. Spiked seltzers are the unofficial summer beverage, and the list of spiked seltzer options continues to grow. While it seems that spiked seltzers sort of emerged from nowhere over the last year or two, the bubbly adult beverage genre was actually invented in 2012 by Nick Shields of Westport, Connecticut. Having worked in the beer industry, he noticed a decline in beer consumption as consumers showed favor to wine and spirits. As the story goes, Nick was at a bar in his hometown one evening when he watched as the bar’s female patrons ordered vodka-sodas more than any other drink. So, as most great ideas do, the concept of a drink that was light, refreshing and made with fermented sugar (versus barley) came to him. Now, eight years later, the brand he created — aptly called Spiked Seltzer — has been sold to Anheuser-Busch InBev, and this particular beverage category has skyrocketed in popularity. And while we’re not 100% sold on the forthcoming pumpkin spice spiked seltzer (that’s a hard pass, Vive!), there are some pretty tasty spiked seltzers that are refreshing on their own or act as a great mixer in some summery beverage recipes.

Whether you’re new to the spiked seltzer scene or are simply looking for suggestions to expand your spiked seltzer palate, here are some tried-and-true suggestions from the StyleBlueprint team. Behold, our favorite spiked seltzers!

“My sister and I love the blood orange spiked seltzer from Bravazzi. It’s quite sweet, so we fill the glass to the top with ice and mix it half and half with either a plain club soda or lime La Croix. It ends up being super refreshing and low-alcohol.”
