The setting for Social‘s new addition, Social Home, is perfect. Situated in what surely was once a home at 650 S. Perkins Road (adjacent to the original Social) is a new store filled with a creative, eclectic mix of found objects, such as European antique furniture, watercolor and oil paintings, housewares and other items great for giving (or keeping all to yourself).
Social opened in 2012, and owner Carmen Bond, a “collector of beautiful things,” opened Social Home just a few weeks ago. Carmen has a love for antiquing and traveling to find one-of-a-kind objects, something that is reflected in every inch of the space.
The new store was inspired by Carmen’s desire to showcase more of her interior design expertise. Back in December, she found out the building directly north of Social would be vacant, so she jumped at the chance to make it her own. Once you step inside Social Home, you’ll find several rooms set up as if you’re stepping inside someone’s beautifully curated living and dining areas.
If you visit today, you will find a huge, ornate, gilded mirror, bronze-colored candelabras, a settee, velvet chairs, large serving pieces fashioned from agate and quartz, pastel ombre pillows, assorted candles and lamps, linens (both new and antique) and fine jewelry (with precious and semiprecious stones). The store also has a lookbook featuring custom upholstered goods for sale, such as sofas and chairs.
Another unique aspect of the new boutique is the featured artists. Currently, you can purchase works created by Lesa Rowe and Molly Witherington, which are on display throughout the store. More artists will be added in the fall. Carmen says the common denominator between her two shops is that the selection will be ever-changing, which is the perfect reason to keep coming back.
Social Home is open Tuesday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Saturday afternoons and Mondays, by appointment only. And mark your calendar—Carmen plans a grand opening for the boutique the first week of September.
