For those of us who typically hit up our preferred hair salon every few weeks for a cut and color, we’re oh-so-ready to return to the chair. Till then, though, if you’re wondering how to maintain your locks, get your hands on some of your favorite products or simply when you’ll be able to schedule that much-needed hair appointment, read on. We chatted with Scot Robinson and Shawn McGee, who co-own Pavo Salon Spa, to find out answers to all of these questions and more!
Can I DIY? Yes, for now.
Pavo Salon Spa, with two Memphis locations, is an Aveda Lifestyle Salon that has been helping Memphians look and feel their best for years! Now more than ever, Pavo stylists have been caring for their clients in new and unique ways. One such way is through the sale of at-home color kits for existing clients to maintain their own color until the salon opens again. “We understand this is not a perfect situation for everyone, and it will certainly have critics buzzing with why this shouldn’t be done,” says Scot. “It goes against what all of us are taught, but at the end of the day, we want to be able to take care of our guests the best way we can.”
The kit is a simple base color touch-up, and it excludes any “super blonde” dimensional colors, fashion colors or highlighting processes. “We have applied every effort to ensure the care of their hair,” adds Scot, “but we have also declined guests based on their own customized color process.”
The at-home new growth touch-up kit is only available for existing customers who have a color formula on file with the salon. When placing an order, the salon will have a consultation to verify the most current formula, and each guest must sign a waiver. The salon will arrange for payment and pick-up time and will provide the guest with a “how-to” video.
How can I still get my favorite products?
In addition to the at-home color kits, anyone can shop the selection of Aveda products available on the Pavo website. “We’re really encouraging our color guests to focus more on the health of their hair. The one product that should be in everyone’s styling routine: Aveda’s Damage Remedy Daily Hair Repair,” says Shawn. “By using this leave-in regularly, you’re repairing and protecting your hair for that big day when you get to sit in your stylist’s chair again. Your hair will be shinier, stronger, easier to style, and provide a great canvas for your next color.”
In addition to hair products, skincare and body care products are also available on the Pavo site. “We know our clients love Aveda products, and we are doing everything we can to make purchasing as easy as possible while keeping our staff and guests safe.” Shawn adds. “We are now offering curbside product pick-up at our location in Laurelwood Shopping Center. Be sure to follow us on Instagram at @pavo_salon to see what days are available, as they can change.” You can also email [email protected] to place your order or get more information.
When should I book my next appointment?
While we are all eagerly anticipating a return to normal, it’s hard to pinpoint when, exactly, that will be. And when it comes to booking appointments once Pavo reopens, Scot reminds us, “Salons will operate in many different ways, and I can only assure you we will take every step needed to make the transition as easy as possible.” Pavo Salon is currently working on a “what to expect” plan for their reopening, and they ask guests to be patient because no one knows what rules may apply.
Until then, Scott offers the following: “The best thing any of us can do is learn to rock your look. Get creative in your styling; women can get comfortable with hair accessories! Men, I know exactly how you feel. We have hair on our necks, and we hate it touching our ears. Just be patient. If you trust your wife, girlfriend or boyfriend to shave your neck, just don’t go into the hairline. It should be just the fuzzies on the neck!”
Pavo Salon Spa has two area locations. Find them at 374 S. Grove Park Rd., #101, Memphis, TN 38117 and 2157 Central Ave., Memphis, TN 38104. Learn more at pavosalon.com.
