StyleBlueprint Memphis presents a Christmas wish dedicated to our four-legged friends at the Humane Society of Memphis & Shelby County. Be it through donations, volunteering or adoption, we can all make a difference in the lives of these furry companions. If you can adopt this season, the SB Memphis team and our families, along with the HSMSC staff, would like to introduce you to some of the many animals currently looking for a fresh start in a loving home. Today, we hope to find a perfect match for these special dogs and cats and their adoptable friends at the HSMSC. The adoption fees listed cover initial vaccinations, the neuter/spay procedure and a microchip, so your new pet will never be lost again!
Roderick is an 8-month-old who stole our hearts with his bubbly Welsh Corgi/Jack Russell mix character. He loves to play, and he gets along well with other dogs. Roderick came to the HSMSC in November 2014 as a transfer from another shelter. (Good news … this perfect little guy was adopted this week! But he has lots of friends who still need a home and would love to meet you!)
Wilhelm is a handsome and oh-so-sweet terrier/pit bull mix. At 1 year and 9 months of age, he will steal your heart with his sweet character and moving story: he came to the HSMSC after being hit by a car, an accident that injured his back leg. They tried to save the leg with surgery, but were unsuccessful. Once he recuperated, Wilhelm’s bounce in his step returned, and all he wants to do now is spend time with a loving companion. Adopt Wilhelm for $100.
This story starts out with a sad beginning, but will end happy when Isobel, a 1-year-old retriever/lab mix, goes home with a wonderful new owner. As a puppy, Isobel was attacked by three other dogs, but a brave neighbor saved her and took her to the HSMSC! She is a bit shy, but the experts on staff say that she warms up once she learns to trust you. After that, you’ll have a best friend for life! Another suggestion by staff members is that Isobel would do especially well in a home that has other dogs who can show her that life is good. Adopt Isobel for $100.
Edgerton is the sweetest 7-year-old Airdale/terrier mix who arrived as a transfer from Memphis Animal Services in November 2014. He is extremely smart and will do anything for a treat. All Edgerton needs to be happy is love and attention, and he would thrive in any kind of setting including with kids or other dogs. Adopt Edgerton for $75.
Indie, a terrier/pit bull mix, is a playful girl with a comedic side. She has lots of energy and a desire to please. Indie came to the HSMSC in September 2014 as a transfer from the Memphis Animal Shelter, and she is 8 months old. She has a deformity in the joint on one of her front legs, but she still is able to use it and get around just fine. Indie is a fun little dog with ears as big as her body! (Good news … this fun-loving girl was adopted this week! But she has lots of friends who still need a home and would love to meet you!)
At just over 4 months, Hawthorne is a kitten who’s ready to play! He entertained all of us with his sleight-of-foot tricks. And who can resist those sparkly eyes? Hawthorne’s adoption fee is $100, but through December 21, all black cats and dogs are half off as part of the Humane Society’s Adoption is the New Black special! Adopt Hawthorne for $50 before December 21; $100 after.
Corrine is a pleasingly plump, adorable, laid-back, loving feline who is just over 3 years old. She is a sweet kitty who had a horrible wound on her side when she arrived in September 2014. Now that it is healed, she is ready to meet her new family. Adopt Corrine for $100.
Jamey is nicknamed Tortie in reference to her tortoise-shell coloring. She is just over a year old, and loves all people. She cannot get enough petting! The HSMSC staff members jokingly say, “If you are looking for a kitty who’s a lover, not a fighter, Jamey is the one.” (Good news … this kitty was adopted this week! But she has lots of friends who still need a home and would love to meet you!)
Wright is just over 9 months of age, and after recovering from an injured leg, he is ready to go home with a new family. He has pretty stripes and loves to purr. He will even tap you on the hand for attention if you stop petting him! Adopt Wright for $100.
Sergeant Tibbs reporting for duty! He is a domestic longhair mix who, at almost 3 years old, loves purring, playing and catnaps. Sergeant Tibbs does have a take-charge personality, so he should be with cats who don’t mind playing subordinate roles. He would also be ideal in a single-cat family. Sergeant Tibbs is a beautiful cat, and HSMSC cat adoption team leader Candy Cain says he is one of her favorites! Adopt Sergeant Tibbs for $100.
Japan arrived at the HSMSC in July as a mother of four kittens. Now she is ready to have her turn as the center of attention in a loving home. Due to a birth defect, Japan’s left eye is smaller than the right, but it doesn’t affect her vision or her personality. She is a playful, 7-year-old kitty with a chic, exotic appearance. She loves people of all ages. Adopt Japan for $75.
