Beer matters to us Memphians: it is, and always has been, at the source of our character and culture. We especially celebrate our own local microbreweries — five Memphis brands that are built on craft, small batch brewing and carefully concocted delta recipes. Raise a glass to our Memphis microbreweries!

The Wiseacre tap room feels like an urban barn of sorts. Spacious and simple building design meets multi-chrome artwork, and a sleek, credit-card-only bar meets freshly crafted southern beer. We love this tap room for its effortless charm, its covered patio, and of course, its tasty brews!
Our Wiseacre Favorites?
- Ananda: our go-to “medication of sophistication” is an IPA whose name means “bliss” in Sanskrit
- The Tiny Bomb: an American pilsner brewed with local wildflower honey
- Gotta Get Up to Get Down: a coffee milk stout brewed with sugar, oats, and dark Ethiopian coffee beans.
SB TIP: Sign up online for brewery tours — they run Wednesday through Saturday every week.
P.S. Here’s why Wiseacre uses cans — they weigh less than glass bottles, they stay crazy cold, they protect from light and oxygen like mini-kegs, and best of all, they’re recyclable!

Boscos on the Square brews 60 unique, small batch beers every year. The restaurant and brewing company steers clear of additives and preservatives, using only the freshest ingredients to craft beers that make Memphis proud. We love Boscos for offering samples and flights that we might test before diving into a full-size brew — but be warned — the choice between Boscos’s samplings is a tough one for us lovers of boldly-bitter brews!
Hefeweizen and the Honey Rye are two of our faves. Both of which are irresistibly earthy, light, and dry. Sip on them at the old-fashioned bar, or on the patio with a wood-fired oven pizza. And if — at the end of the night — you find a Boscos beer has stolen your heart, grab a half-gallon growler for $11 on your way out!

Since 2008, Ghost River Brewing has provided us with handcrafted beers — brewed exclusively with water from our own Memphis Sands Aquifer. The company is proud to donate a potion of its proceeds to the Wolf River Conservancy to help protect the river and its watershed. The fresh and full-flavored Golden Ale, Irish Red Ale, and India Pale Ale are always on tap downtown at the brewery, and take-home growlers are $11 each.

High Cotton Brewing Company opened its Monroe Avenue tap room in June of 2014. On tap at this rustic downtown hangout you’ll find a selection of handcrafted beers that High Cotton is “proud to brew, proud to drink, and most of all, proud to share.” Their main brew — the Extra Special Bitter, or the ESB — is one of the most drinkable pale ales of all time. Enjoy it along with the tap room’s delicious food and live music — sitting inside or outside!
SB TIP: High Cotton gives brewery tours every Saturday at 3 p.m.

Memphis Made’s tap room is tucked behind the “I Love Memphis” mural, just off Cooper Street in the heart of Midtown. Check it out not only for the beer, but also for the food truck that’s almost always parked outside.
Our go-to Memphis Made brews include Lucid Kolsch, a lawnmower beer, pale golden German ale, light and crisp; Fireside Amber, the maltiest, roastiest, and hoppiest of beers and Rockbone IPA, a hop-heavy brew, made with passionfruit and berries.
SB TIP: Memphis Made offers tours every Saturday and Sunday at 4 p.m.
