There are SO many great places to dine in Memphis right now that it can be a bit overwhelming to choose just one spot to have a remarkable meal. Great problem to have, right?

We asked a few of our favorite foodies around town to dish on the last best meal they had while dining out. From cookbook authors to chefs, our friends weighed in with their favorite dishes. We gave them one rule, however: The meal or dish they chose couldn’t be at their own eatery or from their own kitchen. Our eight foodies accepted the challenge and our mouths are now watering! Add their last best meals to your list of must-eats in Memphis!

“It’s a  pan-seared filet of trout in a delicious lemon-thyme beurre blanc sauce,” says Michelle. “(It’s) fresh, simple, flavorful.”

Glenda Hastings, Napa Cafe

Eatery: Bari Ristorante
Dishes: Painted Hills filet mignon with gorgonzola and aged balsamic vinegar ($34); Spaghetti al Carbonara ($10); grilled portobello mushrooms ($7); sautéed rapini ($7); ciabatta bread with olive oil (free — and I eat a lot of it!); and a couple of glasses of Vietti – Barbera ( $44)
Approximate cost: $102

“This meal is proof that quality ingredients and perfect technique in the kitchen turn a simple meal into something extraordinary,” says Glenda. “Jason and Becky Severs provide a consistently great dining experience every visit.”

Lindsay Smith, Wine Market

Eatery: Erling Jensen
Dish: Lobster salad sandwich
Approximate cost: $20

“Not only is this sandwich off the bar menu absolutely delicious but it comes with a heap of truffle parmesan French fries that are to die for,” says Lindsay. “Super delicious on a Friday night with a glass of bubbly!”

Justin Fox Burks and Amy Lawrence, authors of The Southern Vegetarian and The Chubby Vegetarian cookbooks

Eatery: Sweet Grass
Dish: Farmer’s Platter
Approximate cost: $28

The Farmer’s Platter — four veggie dishes served on a platter — is always last-meal-worthy, say Justin and Amy, who discovered it when they visited Sweet Grass for her dad’s birthday back in 2014. “Ryan Trimm fixed us a special, multi-course, mostly vegetarian meal … almost all of the products came from Steve’s farm in Slayden, Mississippi. It was really a once-in-a-lifetime meal made from expertly prepared, in-season ingredients,” says Justin. “We started with a salad of grilled peaches topped with almonds and goat cheese and moved on to compressed melon with microgreens. The next dish to arrive was a giant platter of blistered peppers and sliced heirloom tomatoes with a balsamic reduction. There was spiced, grilled whole corn and a dish of eggplants and bok choy with a tangy buttermilk dressing. Each dish was seemingly simple but deceptively complex — and each ingredient was at the peak of ripeness.”

Josh Hammond, Buster’s Liquors and Wines

Eatery: Cheffie’s Cafe
Dish: Tuscan chicken panini with sliced chicken, roasted red peppers, red onion, baby spinach, Swiss cheese and a pesto schmear
Approximate cost: $8

“Off the beaten path in High Point, many forget this is a great place to stop in for a fresh sandwich or chopped salad made right in front of you,” says Josh. “They offer a shady patio, too!”
