The theme for Memphis Fashion Week 2014 is “I Love Memphis,” inspired by the MET exhibit, “PUNK: Chaos to Couture.” The series of events celebrates the festive and fashionable Memphis we all know and love, while developing fresh fashion talents and discovering special sites along the way.
At the helm is the enterprising young Abby Phillips (a former FACE of Memphis). What she started as a platform to launch young designers and celebrate designers with local ties has expanded to include a grant program funding classes for the stylish-leaning creative talents at the Memphis College of Art. Budding designers can now learn the basics, as well as more advanced skills, in hands-on courses offered here, instead of having to shuttle off to programs in NYC and other major metropolitan cities. Proceeds from the third year of Fashion Week also will allow Memphis Fashion Fund to grant scholarships to deserving students.
If you are considering attending but want more information, here’s the scoop on all of the events, venues and designers. The Memphis Fashion Week Facebook page also has lots of great photos from previous years for wardrobe inspiration. As we celebrate Memphis fashion and the folks who set the stage, we are reminded that the mission of StyleBlueprint really isn’t very different — we also seek to celebrate the vibrant, dynamic, visionary people and places that make our city so special.
