Happy April, Louisville, the true start of spring and the time of year when our city really seems to wake up! After we take our first week off for Spring Break, we launch into all things Derby until all the fun wraps up after that exciting first week of May.
But I’m getting ahead of myself. April is truly glorious in Louisville, and don’t miss moment of everything it has to offer. If you can’t keep track of all the fun, take a look at our Louisville Happenings & Events page. And our April “What to Wear” feature highlights some of our favorites, including fifth annual KMAC Couture fashion show. We also preview some great Derby Week looks – because April is when Louisville women pin those looks down!
We also pulled together a list to help you entertain all those out-of-town guests, Eat Like a Local for Derby, because eating like a local is the BEST way to eat in this city.
Have a fantastic April, everyone! And here’s to a perfect Derby Season! Get out there and enjoy all that our city has to offer – I can’t wait to see you around.
Can you believe we’ve already arrived at March? We have, and it’s definitely spring fever time here in Louisville. Blooms are popping up everywhere and shades of delicate green look like brushstrokes on an otherwise brown landscape. It’s time to shake off the winter blahs and pull on your rain boots, or favorite strappy heels, and get out there to celebrate the impending arrival of spring.
Looking for fun ways to fill up your calendar? Check out our Louisville Happenings & Events page for tons of ideas. The 41st Humana Festival of New American Plays happens all month at Actors Theatre, the Junior League of Louisville holds their annual art and gift market, Tulips and Juleps, at Slugger Field, and LOTS of Derby-themed fashion shows take the stage, including the new Louisville Bespoke Fashion Show at the Speed Museum.
And if you’re looking for the perfect thing to wear for all your upcoming March events, we suggest taking a look at this month’s “What to Wear” feature, shot on-location at Actors Theatre with three women from their Professional Acting Apprentice Company. We had such a great time with them and they look gorgeous in pieces from some of our favorite local Louisville boutiques.
Happy almost spring, y’all! I look forward to see you out soaking up some sunshine, stepping out on the dance floor, catching a performance or trying out your new favorite Louisville restaurant (check out these local places with international roots) soon!
And if you want to keep up with all that StyleBlueprint Louisville has to offer, be sure to download our FREE SB App!
Have a great month!
January is clearly the month of new beginnings, and I’m going to stick with that theme. My biggest resolution in 2016 was to stay open to opportunities – in all aspects of my life – and I’m excited to say that deciding to join the StyleBlueprint team as their new Louisville city editor has been the biggest realization of that resolution so far.
So. Again. Hello! I can’t wait to connect you, the incredible women of Louisville, with so much of what makes our community such a great place to live.
And speaking of some of what makes Louisville great, check out our January Events & Happenings and get inspired! Challenge yourself with 108 sun salutations at this year’s Yoga Mala for Africa event (proceeds benefit the Muhammad Ali Center and the Africa Yoga Project), have a blast and support Kosair Charities at the B3 Bash — A Celebration of Bacon, Bourbon and Beer and experience some astonishing dance up-close with Louisville Ballet’s Choreographers’ Showcase (just to name a few of this month’s options).
If taking a closer look at your health is on your list of 2017 resolutions – I know it’s one of mine – The Top 5 Health Trends of 2017 should definitely be on your must-read list.
Happy New Year to you all! Here’s to new adventures, closer connections and resolutions that get you closer to how you want to spend your days.
I look forward to spending mine with you.
We are almost there…almost to the end of summer. But there is still a lot of summer to be had around here.
We’ll kick off the month with our August Finds, which we feature things that will help you get in the back to school mindset. Speaking of back to school, we are going to tell you where to eat, shop and stay in three college towns in Kentucky: Richmond, Danville and Bowling Green. We got great advice from students and parents that know the inside scoop. We featured all the local places that we know you will love, for example, where to get a good cup of coffee, or a nice glass of wine and even a little gift.
There’s also some luxury finds we found for you this month in our Luxe Loves, which are things that you probably don’t need, but definitely want!
Lots of great food featured this month. We profile Anoosh Shariat’s new Noosh Nosh, especially note his oven in the center of the restaurant that he calls his Ferrari. Love french fries? Especially the fancy ones? We are going to tell you where some great ones are and we had so many that we might have to do a Version 2. Also, we’re going to tell you all about the new restaurants in town too.
We profile a beloved stylemaker this month, Ben Palmer-Ball from Digs, and see what inspires him. Speaking of inspiration, wait until you see our local home this month. You won’t believe it’s in the middle of Louisville.
Our FACES of Louisville this month are definitely doers. Jill Gaynor has tapped into the local staging market, after realizing how much people are looking at pictures of homes for sale. Then there’s Rachelle Starr, who truly shows us how one person can make a difference.
Most of all, be sure to check out our article on things to do before summer ends. Most are cheap and good for the whole family.
Starting with Fourth of July, we have some great ideas and recipes for sides, desserts, even decorating, and we cap off the holiday with the Declaration of Independence. It’s simplicity and poignancy still ring true today. Reading it again, as an adult, always resonates with me.
We start off our week after the holiday weekend with a boatload of great summer finds that you are sure to enjoy. Combine some of our fun fashion ideas in these finds, with our outfits on What to Wear and then layer it with our Instagram finds and you have enough things to wear and have in your home for months. That’s one of the benefits of these articles: we do the shopping and the legwork for you. All you have to do is shop at one of our local stores to pick them up.
We are excited to begin our Wedding Wednesdays. Previously, we dedicated each Wednesday in February and July to weddings. Now we are spreading them out throughout the year, profiling one on the first Wednesday of each month. The wedding for this month is at the lovely Hermitage Farm and the bride and groom are from….Alaska. You’ll just have to read it to see how they got to Kentucky from Anchorage (Alaska, not Kentucky).
Homearama starts in mid-July and we have been following the makings of a Homearama house from scratch. We’ve been along for the ride for every pick of tile, floor, cabinet, light…and it has been fascinating. We are going to show you all the work that goes into the design of one of these houses, before the furniture and decor even cross the threshold.
We have some great food posts coming up, because as you probably know, we love to eat, especially at all our favorite local restaurants.
Finally, we have some other great types of finds to show you…finds in our own purses. You’ll get to see what the SB Team loves in the way of health and beauty products. Some of the products will surprise you!
Have a great Fourth of July!
All the best,
Summer’s here, finally! We deserve a little warmth, a little time in the sun and a little time in the pool. We kicked off June with a guide to what to wear to three great events this month. But don’t relegate these outfits just to those events, they are good for anything all summer long. It is amazing how Louisville has transitioned out of Derby inventory and straight into summer, in the blink of an eye. I think all the boutiques have completely changed their inventory in just one short month. What does that mean for you? It means it’s time to go shopping! With all the happenings this month, you will need some outfits.
We have a great summer wine guide, where all the wines are less than $30 and carefully curated by our friends at Commonwealth Tap. They were the guides behind all our great Thanksgiving wines and we loved all their picks because they were so distinctive and different from all the regular wines we always drank.
On the fashion front, we have shortened your decision making time on white jeans. We think white jeans are the unicorn of your wardrobe because they are so hard to find and so hard to find ones that are flattering. We’ve narrowed down your choices, all from taking a straw poll of our readers and friends’ favorite white jeans; only people with tried, true and normal bodies were allowed to respond:)
On the food front, writer Lindsey McClave is going to profile a tried and true Louisville summer favorite restaurant. She’s also going to give us a great recipe or two to try this month using all summer’s bounty. We are also going to do a roundup of the best outdoor dishes around town to eat your summer meals on.
You are going to love the women we profile on our FACES of Louisville this month. All from very diverse backgrounds and all with one common thread: a passion for their career path. You will totally admire their persistence and talent.
Hope your pool bag is packed and ready to go. Ready, set, summer!
All the best,
Riders up! It’s the month that Kentuckians wait all year for: MAY. We’ve had a busy month in April getting ready for May and for the Derby. May is busy for so many other events besides Derby; I know that is hard to believe. The day after Derby is Mother’s Day. Following that is a slew of graduation events and end of the year activities.
Because of all these events, we tailored our What to Wear and our May Finds to gifts to buy for all sorts of occasions. We also have lots of great ideas for eating and event spaces around town, as that’s on everyone’s mind during these end of year activities and celebrations.
May is a month devoted to mothers around here. We have dedicated our FACES for the month to mother-daughter teams around town. We so enjoyed doing these FACES photo shoots; they were all so endearing and adorable.
Thinking about traveling this summer or maybe exploring our own hometown? We have some great day trips nearby that we will be profiling and some great neighborhoods around town that to explore.
It’s going to be a big busy month Louisville. Then before we know it, summer will be here!
All the best in May to you,
This is no April Fool’s Day joke here folks, Derby is right around the corner. I know on the calendar that it says one month to Derby, but these next four weeks are going to be a flurry of activity. This is always a favorite busy month for StyleBlueprint; last year during this time alone we took over 3,000 pictures for articles and social media.
Consider this our month to do the shopping, eating, drinking and prepping for Derby for you. We are going to show you how to make your own fascinator, how to decorate your dining room for a Derby brunch and how to pack for a day at the races. We have an entire SB Finds devoted to all things Derby and equine; this makes for great gifts for out-of-towners and good decor and fashion for you. Speaking of fashion, we have given you options of what to wear to three events going on in April that are NOT the Derby. We are also going to give you a slew of Derby outfits closer to the end of the month.
Lindsey McClave, our food writer, is busy checking out all the boxed lunch options for Derby. We are also going to find that perfect casserole and cocktail for your Derby brunch.
Big news to share: we are now partnering with WLKY and Insider Louisville, sharing our style content on their sites. This is a great partnership and we are eager to show more of Louisville our content.
Other big news to share: StyleBlueprint Louisville is turning FIVE years old this month! We are so proud of the last five years and could not be more thankful for your readership.
All the best during this great month in Louisville,
March is rolling in a lion around here. Spring clothes and bright colors are all abloom in all the retailers across Louisville. We are so excited to put our winter wardrobes away and start fresh.
We kick off the month with our favorite post, SB Finds, where you will find all sorts of ways to incorporate spring into your life. We have spring fashion, accessories and home decor all at the ready for you to buy from our local shops.
Our food finds are great this month as well. Food writer Lindsey McClave will preview an oldie but goodie for our monthly restaurant review. She is also giving you a nice list of places to get raw oysters and there are many around town; we find amazing that our local fresh seafood selection is so great and we are a landlocked state.
Our home profiles are always popular and we are exploring many homes where old meets new, specifically in Germantown and Irish Hill.
Enjoy this March and Luck O’ the Irish to you!
All the best,
We made through January, a month filled with cold, snow and broken resolutions. Well, maybe you didn’t break any resolutions, but I sure did during the Snowmaggedon. No judgment here.
We love to love February around Louisville. After a month recovering from the holidays, Louisvillians are revved up and ready to hit the town again. Check out all of our Louisville Events and Happenings around town, and while you’re at it, be sure that you know What to Wear to all these great things.
February is the month of weddings. We will feature a local wedding each Wednesday and this is always a crowd favorite. I think we enjoy writing these articles as much as you enjoy reading them. We’ve parlayed the wedding theme into our FACES of Louisville this month. We are going to profile a favorite wedding cake maker, a favorite wedding planner, a favorite wedding florist team, and a favorite wedding dress designer.
We have a lot of big eating plans for you as well. Food writer Lindsey McClave talks about some of the oldest and newest restaurants in Louisville this month. You will love walking down memory lane with one article and then you will be inspired with a new restaurant concept in town.
We talk a little about Valentine’s Day this month. We know it’s not everyone’s favorite, but there are a lot of cute Finds out there related to this day of love. There’s also a lot of nice jewelry to be had. So give the lists to your sweetie as a gift guide, or just buy them for yourself. Either way, you deserve it!
Who loves you baby! We do!
All the best,
A Happy New Year to all our StyleBlueprint readers. This will be a month filled with wellness and warmth, as we turn the page and start a new chapter.
We kicked off the New Year with our January SB Finds, where there was not one mention of diet or exercise. We decided instead to focus on comfort, coziness and useful things instead. We also shared a list of ten new restaurants you should try this year; consider it a “to do” list of eating. We are positive that you are up to the challenge and it’s no easy feat, considering how successful the restaurant scene is here.
We have some great women we are profiling this month in our FACES of Louisville. Starting with former Kentuckian Molly Sims and then finishing the month with some great wellness gurus around town; you’ll love to hear their advice.
We profile a home the first week in January that you have probably seen a time or two and wondered what the inside looked like. It’s a mid-century modern home, located on the corner of Trevilian Rd. and Newburg Rd. It is as spectacular inside as it is outside, with the homeowners painstakingly renovating the inside to stay true to its original design.
If you are planning on starting a new workout this month, never fear, we have listed a few to try and most importantly what to expect and what to wear. We’ve taken all the anxiety out of the starting process and now all you have to do is “the heavy lifting” per se.
We have a few other treats in store for you this month, from restaurants, to new businesses and a couple profiles of business “workers” that you will enjoy.
I cannot believe that this year is almost over. What a whirlwind of growth and changes here at StyleBlueprint Louisville, for which I am so grateful. We have added Meghan Tinker, Sales Manager, along with Elizabeth Gerber, who is our Client Success Representative and Contributing Writer. We also have the great help of our SB Guide Photographer and Contributing Writer Krista Walker. We are drooling over Lindsey McClave’s food articles that she contributes each month. All that said, SB Louisville has assembled quite a team to cover this fair city of ours.
We are completely ready for the holidays around here. After about 3,000 pictures in a month between all of us, we have assembled quite a list of gift guides. There will be our annual 50 Great Gifts under $50 that kicks off the month. This will be followed by great Hostess Gifts and Luxe Loves. So we have hit every part of the gift giving spectrum.
We would be remiss if we did not include food this month, because let’s face it, we’ve been on an eating bender since Thanksgiving. (Actually Halloween for me, but who’s counting?) Lindsey McClave has a real treat coming up in a couple of weeks for everyone to experience.
New this month are lots of things to do over the holidays: places to go, books to read, movies to watch on Netflix. Enjoy your time off this month to the fullest.
Last but not least…wait until you see our FACES this month. We are profiling two women that are vibrant in this community. One hitting her stride, reinventing the way we experience art and hospitality. The other about to close the book on two big chapters in her young life and move on to her career.
We really want you to experience our SB Guide App that we have worked so hard on since this summer. It has where to go and what to do all over town, all from the convenience of your smart phone. The feedback we get from this app is amazing. Everything is all in one place, from the store’s websites, to their hours, to how to call them directly. No more navigating, it’s all here at your fingertips.
Thank you all for reading!
All the best,
Get ready to be grateful this month. I for one am so grateful for the beautiful mild fall that we have had, enabling us to enjoy all the outdoor festivals and football games that the month had to offer.
This month, we are focusing our attention on…..the holidays. “Already?”, you ask. Yes, already. The time is near.
We kick off the month with a pretty famous FACE of the South. I’ll not say much more than that she is a Nashville native who is an actress. Follow that up with some pretty awesome ladies from Louisville for the rest of the month. One of our local FACES shows us street style in Louisville with her personal blog and incredible eye. Another FACE had the daunting job of procuring, coordinating and installing the first public art exhibition downtown, Connect|Disconnect.
Our SB Finds are sure to please, with selections from local businesses for fashion, for your home and even for Thanksgiving. If you like looking at pictures (and hopefully you are following us on Instagram right?), we have compiled a great list of Instagrammers to follow here in Louisville. They will make you look at your city in a whole new way, as they are wowing us daily with their wonderful photographs.
Food is always on our brain, especially this month. We review a new restaurant from a familiar face around town. We also took on the tough assignment of sampling all the hot chicken in town. Pass the ice water and the napkins for that one. But more about food, we are dedicating the entire week before Thanksgiving to recipes, and wine, and ideas for entertaining. Your cup (and your dinner plate) will surely overfloweth.
Most of all, we are thankful for you, our readers. We are also so thankful for our local businesses that make Louisville such a success, and not to mention, a great place to live, work and play!
All the best,
Well hello Fall, good to see you again. We are dusting off our boots and bringing our sweaters out of storage, making sure the darker jeans are still in good shape and that we can still fit into them!
This month, there is a lot going on in the horse world here in Kentucky. With the Breeder’s Cup in Lexington at Keeneland this year, many Louisvillians will make that short trip east to have a “second” Derby season. We are going to help you with everything related to going to the Fall Meet at Keeneland. What to wear, where to eat and the insider tips for navigating the experience are all on the docket for this month.
We are also profiling three great homes and paying homage to the wonder of an outside porch in the fall. Get ready for some inspiration on decor and lifestyle with those articles.
There’s lots going on in the food and bourbon world too. New faces, old faces and new restaurants are popping up everywhere. Our food writer Lindsey McClave has been busy looking into all these things, and she is excited to share her news.
We cannot forget Halloween and how much we love that it falls on a Saturday this year! Lots of parties and decoration ideas for that are on the way as well. And, a great photo gallery of our favorite spooky houses during this season—Hillcrest Avenue, we are looking at you!
All the best,
September is always a month of transitions..not quite summer, but not yet fall either. Usually, the weather is prime for outdoor activities.
Labor Day is late this year, which gives us a whole additional week of summer to enjoy. There is so much to do on Labor Day that we did a Labor Day Roundup with all things local to enjoy.
Our Happenings post for September is about a mile long, with more fests than we can mention. Last week, we helped you with what to wear to two of these festivals, WorldFest and Brew Fest, in our What to Wear article.
We’ve got a couple rabble rousers as FACES of Louisville this month. Both have extreme passion in their jobs, their causes and for justice. One fights for women and the other for…vegetables. You’ll just have to read it to see what we are talking about. And we have another famous FACE of the South coming up in September. You’ll definitely want to read about her after seeing her every day on morning television.
We were feeling a bit nostalgic when writing posts this month. We are going to make Louisvillians take a step back in time, with old familiar places to eat and shop. You are going to love taking a look at some of these old pictures too.
We mentioned it’s a transition month, so you will see all sorts of transitional pieces for you and your home in our SB Finds and Fashion articles. It’s time to get ready for fall whether you’re ready or not!
And who can forget that college football is starting back. Enter the realm of the tailgate and the appropriate sportswear. What we don’t cover in articles for this month will be all over social media.
Have a great September!
Wait a minute, it’s August already. How did that happen? In the blink of an eye, summer is almost over; and what a summer it has been.
But before you wrap up your pool toys and take your cute sandals to the basement to find your boots, you have 30 days plus Labor Day Weekend to maximize this month.
We devoted a lot of content this month to getting ready to go back to school, not just for your children, but for you as well. Are you ready? Our SB Finds this month have some great things for your school year and we have a Back to School checklist for those going off to college soon.
Speaking of back to school, are you organized and ready for the onslaught of papers and gear that is about to populate your house again? We can help with all these things.
Speaking of houses, we have some great homes to feature this month, as well as good DIY ideas. If you are really looking to fill your home with beautiful things, look out for our Luxe Loves post, where coveting is not a sin.
We’ve been traveling around Louisville this month, finding great neighborhoods to feature. We got to sit and stay awhile, and have lots to tell about these treasures in our community.
I’m excited about our FACES of Louisville this month. We are featuring four REALLY strong women this month, who are all soaring to the top of their respective fields and all taking really big risks in the process.
Here’s what we are the most excited about….we are launching our guide to the city this week. Soon, you will be able to download our app on your phone and find out the best places to shop, eat, exercise, you name it, it will all be at your fingertips.
Have a great last month of summer and soak up the sun!
July starts off with a bang with our first wedding article of the month featuring the gorgeous nuptials of Cary Ricketts and Channing Cox. Weddings will be featured each Wednesday in all of our markets, with all of them beautiful and unique. This is a great opportunity to check them out and get inspiration for your own special affair. Our Louisville brides always show their love of the city in their weddings, whether it be in the food, the bourbon cocktails or the support of local businesses in the event planning.
Also, since it’s officially summer, our SB FINDS will be reflective of the warmer weather and longer days. Look for great clothes, accessories and home decor in this month’s FINDS.
Lots of great food articles coming your way as well. Think beer, barbecue and great patios to enjoy this month. We’ve also included some Fourth of July recipes that will keep out in the hot sun all day long and still be good.
There is plenty of music this month too, with the Forecastle Festival being the headliner of the month. We’ll profile the events going on during the week and even tell you what to wear for the weekend.
Congratulations to Pat Stiglitz of Louisville who won the $500 gift card to Physician’s Center for Beauty. There are so many ways for her to spend that money! We have another great giveaway coming up in the middle of July, and we promise you’ll be rushing to sign up for it. It’s $500 to Jordan Clines Jewelers. I can think of so many ways for that money to be spent as well.
Happy summer, and happy birthday, America!
Summer’s finally here, Louisville. After all the snow and ice and arctic conditions we survived this winter, none of us can complain about the heat now, right?
June is going to be really interesting on StyleBlueprint Louisville, and all in good ways! For FACES of Louisville, we are profiling five women who are really involved in our community, all in very different ways. The one thing that all five have in common this month is that they have a wealth of information about subjects they are passionate about, and they want to spread the word in our community. These subjects include education, water, food, health and green living. You will definitely get a lot out of their interviews; I know I did.
We have some great food stories coming up as well, with stories on margaritas (you’ll be printing that one out for your recipe file), local restaurants and quick eats to go.
On the homefront, well, there’s also a lot of information there. We are going to be wowed by a home profile early in the month. Then we will learn how to make our homes more environmentally friendly and less toxic with just a few steps. You will be surprised how toxic our homes are and how simple and cost-efficient those problems are to remedy.
We are chock full of fashion this month. Did you know how many local boutiques also have online shopping? We will give you a guide to all those stores, so that you can shop local from your computer. We will also have lots of goodies in our monthly SB FINDS and What to Wear articles.
My favorite story this month will surely be yours as well. We learn the secret to longevity from three older artisans who have more energy and creativity than all of us combined; they will really teach you that age is just a number.
Last but not least, we have a mighty big giveaway that starts June 1 and lasts for three weeks. It is a $500 gift card to Physician’s Center for Beauty, an SB favorite. That’s a lot of great services and products that you could have this summer.
Cheers to you and, as always, thanks for reading StyleBlueprint.
May is shaping up to be a busy month around Louisville, for the obvious reasons of Derby weekend, but it is also a busy time with Mother’s Day, graduations and the general preparation for summer.
After taking almost 2,000 pictures in preparation for Derby of every sort of dress, gift, hat, you name it, I found myself the week of Derby with nothing to wear and no gifts to give to hostesses and out of town guests. I guess I should take my own advice. But I hope you enjoyed all of our Derby coverage; it’s fun to see Louisville shine.
We have a big announcement that you will see on all the FACES of Louisville this month. StyleBlueprint Louisville will be partnering Kentucky One Health as they are our new underwriter for FACES. We are profiling a Kentucky One cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon Dr. Kendra Grubb this month; she is one of the only cardiovascular and thoracic surgeons here in Louisville who is a female. Recently she performed a surgery live on the internet, and the patient was awake for the procedure. *gulp*
We are working on the launch of our new SB Guide to Louisville, which is a curated guide of everything from restaurants, to retail stores, to salons. We are also proud to introduce our new Sales Manager Barbara Lalley, who is creating our guide as we speak and getting it ready for our summer launch.
May will be a month about the home. We are going to see a Behind the Scenes tour of the first house that “Papa John” built in Anchorage. We will learn how to do a quick makeover that completely changes the look of your house. And we are going to explore Louisville, with a profile on Germantown and a story on favorite local hikes in the area.
Enjoy your month,
Editor, StyleBlueprint Louisville
