Summer may be winding down, but that doesn’t mean the fun has to stop! There are so many amazing events in Louisville this month that you’ll forget that the temperatures are starting to drop. For this edition of What to Wear, we’re highlighting three exciting upcoming events: The Gaslight Festival in Jeffersontown, Bourbon & Beyond 2018 at the Waterfront and The Hope Gala at the Omni Louisville Hotel.
We’re pretty excited about our gorgeous models, too! We have two honorees from the American Cancer Society’s The Hope Gala. Sommer Johnson is the survivor/caregiver lead for the Relay for Life of the 502, Jefferson County. As such, she works to recognize and honor the survivors and caregivers and get them involved in the Relay for Life of the 502. Sommer is also a Hodgkins Lymphoma cancer survivor. Laura Mitchell, oncology clinical nurse specialist, is being recognized for nearly 30 years of providing exceptional, patient-centered cancer care in our local community. Laura has volunteered annually for the past 22 years as Relay for Life team captain, engaging team members in raising more than $200,000 to fund cancer research and support services through the American Cancer Society. With the fashion expertise of our stylist Shannon Kessler of Primp Style Lounge, our models are sporting looks from three fabulous Louisville boutiques: 6pm Outlet, That Cute Little Shop and Clater Jewelers. Here’s a look at what to wear this September!
What to Wear: September 2018
The Event: The Gaslight Festival
- September 14-16, 2018
- Times vary depending on day and activity.
- Free and open to the public
- For more info, visit jtownchamber.com.
A motorcycle rally, live entertainment, a balloon glow and golf scramble — all celebrating and showcasing the talents of the small town of Jeffersontown. The annual Gaslight Festival is the region’s fifth largest festival, and this popular event has everything under the sun. Grab your family and friends, and head out for a two-day festival so jam-packed with fun that it is sure to be a weekend to remember.
What to wear + Shannon’s style tips: Shannon chose three gorgeous looks for the festival. The first is a kimono, which is a great addition to any wardrobe. This beautiful transitional piece is lightweight and offers a fun bohemian alternative to your traditional cardigan. You can wear it with a little black dress or keep it causal with denim. The second look is a beautiful long-sleeve maxi dress — a girl’s best friend in the transition from summer to fall. This off-the-shoulder maxi features two slits that elevate the look, making this dress your go-to from day to night. The third look is a cute and casual off-the-shoulder bell-sleeved dress that has the perfect amount of embroidered detail. Paired with a casual neutral bootie, this dress can take you from exploring the Gaslight Festival to grabbing dinner in quaint J-Town.
The Event: Bourbon & Beyond 2018
- September 22 & 23, 2018
- Times vary depending on day and activity.
- Ticket prices vary depending on the package.
- Waterfront Park
- For more info, visit bourbonandbeyond.com.
How would you like to drink some bourbon, eat delicious food and listen to John Mayer all at the same time? Now you can, because Bourbon & Beyond is here! Head to the Waterfront for a weekend with incredible artists like Sting, Lenny Kravitz, Robert Plant, Sheryl Crow and many more. It may just give Forecastle a run for its money. Come ready for some amazing bourbon and an experience you’ll never forget. You can even camp out in your RV!
What to wear + Shannon’s style tips: For Bourbon & Beyond, Shannon chose two perfect looks and says that when we’re heading out to the Bourbon & Beyond Festival, layers will be key. For Laura’s look, she opts for light, easy layers with a drapey vest and a tank with a cute detailed hem. Lightweight denim and comfy shoes allow you to hop around from band to band while looking festival-ready! Also, a great denim jacket is a classic rock-and-roll look. So, Sommer’s super-stretchy dark-wash jacket will not restrict her from throwing her hands up and yelling for her favorite Bourbon & Beyond band. It’s also the perfect companion for this updated version of the twirl dress — and bonus, it has pockets!
The Event: The Hope Gala
- September 22, 2018
- 5:30 p.m.
- Tickets start at $150.
- The Omni Louisville Hotel
- For more info, visit hopegalalouisville.org.
Put your fancy shoes on, because it’s time to dance the night away at The Omni Hotel. The Hope Gala is a one-of-a-kind evening, featuring great food, dancing, a spectacular auction and live music by Linkin’ Bridge. The American Cancer Society will use the money raised from this unforgettable evening to saves lives by helping people stay well and get well, finding cures for and fighting back against cancer. This event will begin with a VIP hour and silent auction at 5:30 p.m. Tickets start at $150.
What to wear + Shannon’s style tips: Let’s get fancy! Shannon says we can upgrade our black evening wear with a plunging neckline and criss-cross detailing. After all, sophistication and refinement are always in style. Gala season is right around the corner, so make an entrance with something like this elegant column-style gown with flattering side-ruching.
