Here in Louisville, summer heat is still upon us yet fall fashions have arrived. What do you wear when two seasons are head-to-head? We say comfort is key, so we’ve found some transitional pieces to ease this hot progression into fall.
This month, we are highlighting Labor Day weekend activities, World Fest and Downs After Dark. To help you figure out what to wear to each, we visited local boutiques Collections Boutique, M.E. Modern Elegance, Peacock Boutique, Blu Boutique, Apricot Lane, Circe + Swag, General Eccentric, Merci Boutique and Liv Boutique.
If you can’t wait to don the hottest fall trends like us, check out these outfits below to kick-start a cool, effortless transition into fall.
The Event: Labor Day Weekend Activities
- September 2 – 5, 2016
- Casual cookouts to dressier parties
Labor Day Weekend brings a variety of activities celebrating the unofficial end to summer (and, of course, our hard work). From picnicking in the park with your family to cookouts and dressier parties, there are plenty of opportunities for well-earned fun for everyone.
What to wear: The unofficial end to summer calls for celebrating in style. Stick to casual, cool dresses and long necklaces. The cold-shoulder style that made an appearance this summer is an added bonus, as this trend will be sure to stick around for fall.
The Event: WorldFest
- September 2 – 5, 2016
- Friday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.; Monday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Located at the Belvedere on Fifth and Main Streets
- Admission is free
WorldFest is a cannot-miss international festival held on the Belvedere each year. This year, WorldFest celebrates its 14th anniversary with more world food, music, dance, culture and education than ever. Bring the whole family and embrace this festive celebration of our city’s cultural diversity. Fun fact: Louisville’s public school students speak more than 100 different languages and 35 percent of the population growth over the past 15 years has come from international residents from more than 150 different countries. (SOURCE: louisvilleky.gov) Now that’s something to celebrate!
What to wear: This is a vibrant, outdoor festival celebrating our city’s international citizens and cultures. Wear something festive in which you comfortably can eat a Greek gyro, like a floral-embroidered dress or a printed maxi. Pair any of these outfits with a leather jacket as we progress further into the next season for a trending fall look.
The Event: Downs After Dark
- Saturday, September 24, 2016
- First race is at 6 p.m.
- To purchase tickets, visit churchilldowns.com.
This is your last chance to catch some night racing at Churchill Downs this season. The night’s theme is Bourbon, Bets & Bow Ties — and you can expect an infusion of Southern style in everything from the music to the decor.
What to wear: While the guys are sure to be wearing bow ties, you can showcase your contemporary but timeless Southern style. Pair a romper with a dressier gold chain necklace or try a dress with an interesting hemline or suede texture – fully embracing this year’s fall trends.
We hope that these outfits make the transition into your fall wardrobe that much easier!
