November is right around the corner, and we all know what happens after November 1. Fast forward, and it’s already the New Year! But let’s don’t get ahead of ourselves. The month is a time to start bundling up, as activities around town are both outside and inside. Kick off November fun with a much-anticipated Broadway musical coming to the Kentucky Center: Wicked. We are also going to give you options for Thanksgiving dinner with your family and friends; something that doesn’t involve an elastic waist, but is comfortable and gives you room for another piece of pumpkin pie. Lastly, bundle up, because we are headed downtown to Light Up Louisville for the holidays. Today, we feature 10 looks from 10 different boutiques around town: Merci, The Shirt Shop, Monkee’s of Louisville, Boutique Serendipity, Liv Boutique, Rodeo Drive, Rodes, Collections, Work the Metal and Something Blue.
We’re shopping local, and you should, too! Be sure to download the SB App before you start shopping, so with the convenience of your smartphone you can be in the know on where to go and what to buy.
The Event: Wicked
- November 18-December 6, 2015
- Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts
- Tickets start at $69 and can be purchased here
Was the Wicked Witch of the West always so wicked? Wicked is the backstory of Elphaba, who becomes the Wicked Witch of the West, growing up “green” with her friend Glinda. Follow them to Oz in this show which is fun for all ages. The music will stick with you forever.
What to wear? This is a time to have some fun with color or texture. No boring black witch outfit for you; let’s spice it up with some pretty dresses you can wear through the holidays. Here are three options (and you can optionally paint your face green, too).
The Event: Thanksgiving
- Thursday, November 26, 2015
- Taking place in homes, hotels, stadiums, restaurants and just about anywhere people like to gather on this annual holiday
- Be sure to check out our Thanksgiving Day recipes in November for inspiration
Some Thanksgiving gatherings are casual, some are more dressy and others are a mix of anything goes. We’ve found four options here that run the gamut from very comfortable to dressy, but all of them have room for an extra helping and a full belly. They also allow room for a turkey sandwich later on in the day while watching football.
The Event: Light Up Louisville
- Friday, November 27, 2015
- From 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
- Click here to learn more and for a schedule of events
For 35 years, Louisvillians have headed downtown the day after Thanksgiving to celebrate the beginning of the holiday season. After you shop the sales on Black Friday, travel downtown with your whole family, where starting at 11 a.m., there will be ice skating, a world market and a 5k race (that might counter all the damage you have done the day before). The headlining event is the parade, which starts at 6:30 p.m. and begins at Fourth and Chestnut. Santa arrives to Light Up Louisville at 8 p.m. Stay to skate and to take in the lights and entertainment until 11 p.m. All activities are at Fourth Street Live.
What to Wear: We are betting it is going to be a little chilly, so these three outfits focus on warmth and comfort, all while looking stylish and chic.
