January was a doozy, wasn’t it? A little bit of snow never hurt anyone, but a lot of snow … well, that’s a problem. There are lots of local events and happenings in February, so get dressed, put on your boots and coats, and get out of the house. We will tell you what to wear for three fun events next month: Chocolate Dreams Fundraiser, Lobster Feast at Actors Theatre and Blake Shelton in concert at the KFC Yum! Center. What’s great about all these outfits is that they can be worn to any of our events, and there is a long, fun list to choose from in February. Also, don’t forget about Valentine’s Day and wearing a little something special with your special someone. We picked looks from Monkee’s, Merci, Boutique Serendipity, Liv Boutique, Circe + Swag, Apricot Lane, Collections, General Eccentric, M.E Modern Elegance, J. McLaughlin, Omagi Salon & Spa and The Shirt Shop. We decided to highlight mainly dresses for February, because they are easy. Pair them with tights or leggings and boots, and you’ve got yourself an outfit. For many of these dresses, you could wear them all year round; just change up the shoes. Another trend we are noticing are necklaces, especially long ones that make a statement. All right, here’s what to wear!
The Event: Chocolate Dreams
- Monday, February 1, 2016
- The Pointe in Butchertown
- Tickets start at $65 and can be purchased here.
Twenty-five local chefs participate in the Chocolate Dreams fundraiser for GuardiaCare, where they create their own chocolate concoctions. There will be real food there, in addition to all the chocolate, with light appetizers, wine and bourbon available. But this event is all about saving room for the desserts.
What to Wear: The fun starts right after work, so wear something to work that you can transition out with. Think a dress, with a little something extra that can take you from day to night. Maybe put on some red lipstick, too, to hide all the chocolate on your mouth.
The Event: Lobster Feast for Actors Theatre
- Saturday, February 6, 2016
- Takes place at the Downtown Marriott
- Tickets start at $300 and can be purchased here.
Lobster Feast is the annual fundraiser for Actors Theatre, and this year’s theme is Happily Ever Actors! This event is so popular each year because of the all-you-can-eat lobsters. People are known to have a game plan before arriving so that they can maximize their eating enjoyment. There is also dancing and a great band, so you can dance off your dinner.
What to Wear: Each year, this fundraiser gives the option of coming in casual dress or in costume. If you go the costume route, note that they should be fairy tale-related. While we don’t have that kind of fashion in a purview right now, we can give you some great looks if you prefer the snappy, casual route.
The Event: Blake Shelton at the KFC Yum! Center
- Friday, February 19, 2016
- At the KFC Yum! Center
- Tickets start at $26.75 and can be purchased here.
My boyfriend from “The Voice” is coming to see me next month. Well, I guess he’s taken (and so am I), but that can’t stop me from seeing this country music superstar. Opening with special guest Chris Janson, Blake Shelton performs at the KFC Yum! Center, and tickets start at $26.75.
What to Wear: He’s country, he’s western, but you can wear whatever makes you happy. Think warm, casual, but still a little fancy for the night, just in case you get to meet him!
Accessories add that perfect finishing touch to any outfit. Here are some versatile clutch, earring and necklace options we found around town:
There’s a lipstick for every season, and we asked Marian Sang at Omagi Salon Spa what her favorites are for February. She recommends Aveda’s Sheer Rhubarb, which is a shimmery plum shade, and Aveda’s Juneberry Lip Shine, which is a glossy, rosy nude that can be worn alone for a soft, nude lip or on top of Sheer Rhubarb to soften, while offering lots of glossy shine. The Sheer Rhubarb is $17, and the Juneberry Lip Shine is $17, as well.
Enjoy your month!
