The holidays are officially here, everyone! Bring on the eggnog, the caroling, the lights, the snow and THE FESTIVITIES! It is the busiest time of year, but luckily, we have taken care of one thing for you … what to wear! Check out the outfits below for some festive looks.
This month, we are highlighting the Nutcracker and Lou Year’s Eve as well as holiday parties and light displays around town. To help you figure out what to wear to each event, we visited local boutiques BLU Boutique, Peacock Boutique and General Eccentric.
The Event: The Brown-Foreman Nutcracker
- December 10 – 22, 2016
- Showtimes vary
- At the Kentucky Center (501 W. Main St.)
- Tickets start at $35 and can be purchased here.
The holidays would not be complete without this annual tradition of The Brown-Foreman Nutcracker by the Louisville Ballet, presented by Brown-Forman. Sugar Plum Fairies, Clara and the Nutcracker Prince will all be there to entertain you. Enjoy the magical sets and costumes as you are taken into a world of holiday magic and spirit.
What to wear: For this classic theater performance, wear something timeless with a modern twist. Try a classic red dress paired with a fun faux-fur vest, or a holiday-red velvet dress. Can anyone say, Santa Baby!
The Event: Holiday parties and light displays around town
With December comes a surplus of holiday parties to attend. Whether it is a work party, Dirty Santa party, family party, or cookie exchange, you will be wanting to look your best. After all, there will surely be pictures galore taken of you this season!
What to wear: We have picked outfits for a more casual Dirty Santa party, to an all-decked-out holiday extravaganza. Try a holiday-esque flannel for the more casual parties, paired with a simple skirt and hat. Or, for a more lavish look, don an LBD along with a black statement necklace. Either way, you will be sure to make a statement this season!

A new event is coming to Louisville on New Year’s Eve that will showcase the city’s arts and cultural scene while providing a fun and safe option for the whole family. “Lou Year’s Eve” is a unique celebration taking place at more than 20 venues and 5 museums lining West Main Street, featuring dance, art, storytelling, performers, music of all kinds and local food and beverage.
What to wear: Whatever you wear, make sure to bundle up as you’ll be in and out of various venues. We suggest wearing a midi skirt with some boots or a festive off-the-shoulder top paired with a warm scarf. Or, wear a festive sequin top paired with some black slacks. ‘Tis the sequin!
It’s beginning to look a lot like a well-dressed Christmas! We hope you enjoy the most wonderful time of the year!
