It is hot, hot, hot in Louisville right now and there still are so many outside events on our social calendars. What do you wear when it’s blazing hot outside? Think cool and breezy with a big focus on dresses — because nothing is cooler in hot weather than a flowing dress.
This month, we are highlighting summer date nights, Brew at the Zoo and Sophisticated Living Polo World Cup. To help you figure out what to wear to each, we visited local boutiques such as Peacock Boutique, FRESH Boutique, M.E. Modern Elegance, Something Blue, Collections, Liv Boutique, Circe, Merci Boutique and General Eccentric.
Whether you’re in the air conditioning or outside, these should be great options to keep you looking cool and cute.
The Event: Summer Date Night
- Happening hopefully often
- Location can be anywhere! But here’s a list of places we recommend.
- Prices range from free to $$$
Date nights in the summer are great because there are so many options of what to do around town, and at so many different price points. Be sure to refer to our article about date nights to get great ideas for some summer lovin’.
What to wear: It’s fun to get a little dressed up for a date, right? But depending on where you go, really casual might be an option, too. Not athleisure but shorts and a cute top will work just fine.
The Event: Brew at the Zoo
- Saturday, August 27, 2016
- 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
- For more information, visit louisvillezoo.org
Every year, this event sells out in about an hour. So if you are one of the lucky few that scored a ticket, you better get prepared for a great evening. There will be tastings of great local craft beers, food, a silent auction, animal encounters and live entertainment.
What to wear: This event is outside, so be sure to wear something cute, casual and cool — and keep yourself hydrated. Try some florals or prints but there’s no need to dress like a zookeeper or in jungle attire.
The Event: Sophisticated Living Polo World Cup
- Saturday, August 27, 2016
- 3 p.m.
- Oxmoor Farm
- Tickets start at $75. For more information: slpolo.com
This a great summer’s end party on a beautiful piece of land — and the event just happens to include a polo match. Gates open at 3 p.m., which gives you enough time to tailgate before the first race begins at 4 p.m. There will be a barbecue buffet, bourbon, wine, spirits and entertainment under the tents. General admission is $75 for adults (children under 14 are free); reserved field-side tables for eight under the tent are $600; and tailgating spots are $250. Food and drinks are included in the ticket price, as is ogling the polo players.
What to wear: This is a polo match, so up your game and wear something light and chic. Dresses and high fashion are definitely part of this party.
In addition to the necklaces shown on some of these looks, we found these two great pieces of jewelry that would look good with every outfit.
Enjoy your month, and stay cool!
