This month’s What to Wear post was an easy one because July in Louisville is filled with activities that take place outside and call for casual dress. With the heat of the summer, all we really need is a cute sundress and great pair of shorts, right? With that in mind, we’ve chosen three great summer events that call for some cool, casual outfits that won’t make you sweat. Where are we hanging out in July? The Fourth of July on the Waterfront and Crescent Hill, Forecastle and the Barefoot Polo Classic. OK, ladies, get to shopping these stylish outfits from Modern Elegance, Monkee’s of Louisville and Pink Door Boutique.
The Event: Crescent Hill Fourth of July — July 3-4 & Fourth of July on the Waterfront — July 4
Louisville always has great, family-friendly Fourth of July celebrations. This year, you can add two to your list: the Crescent Hill Fourth of July Celebration and Fourth of July on the Waterfront.
The Crescent Hill Fourth of July Celebration, at the Peterson-Dumesnil House, is a two-day affair starting the morning of Friday, July 3, and winding up on Saturday, July 4, with fireworks. Grab your blankets and enjoy live music and food. Check out Crescent Hill’s website for a detailed event schedule.
The annual Fourth of July on the Waterfront returns after a one-year hiatus and is sponsored by the Louisville Orchestra. The orchestra performs a patriotic show before the fireworks start, and guests can enjoy food, alcoholic beverages, a Leinenkugel Summer Shandy biergarten, great music and, of course, an impressive display of fireworks. Check out Louisville Waterfront’s website for a detailed event schedule.
Now, for the outfits. If you don’t already have something festive to wear, don’t worry. We have chosen tastefully patriotic looks.
The Event: Forecastle — July 17-19
Forecastle is one of Louisville’s greatest summer traditions, besides the Derby, of course! With a three-day lineup of excellent bands, this is one throw-down you definitely won’t want to miss. Enjoy good music, good beer and great people on the Waterfront. If all of your music festival outfits are outdated or worn out, don’t worry! We’ve found some great options. Oh, and one other thing you’ll be needing? Tickets!
The Event: Barefoot Polo Classic — Saturday, July 25
OK, we couldn’t not include a dressier event in this month’s what to wear, because we just love dressing up. With fewer dressy occasions during the summer, we’ve found one that may tickle your (horseracing) fancy: The Barefoot Polo Classic at Oxmoor Farm, played by the Louisville Polo Match. Think Bachelors’ Ball meets The Hill at Keeneland. Grab your friends, food and drink and celebrate like its those spring and fall months at Keeneland. Following the match, enjoy live music at the Kentucky farm party just a hop over from the horses. We’ve chosen three great looks, all of which would be the perfect match for your Polo Classic date.
Enjoy your July, and stay cool!!
