When we think of fall, we think cozy comfort and transitional styles. The cooler temperatures, changing leaves and myriad fall festivities call for some trendy outfits and make for the perfect excuse to go shopping (like we needed one, right?). Shannon Kessler of Primp Style Lounge styled our two beautiful models — yoga instructor Elizabeth Spears of Bend and Zen Hot Yoga and Milestone and yoga blogger Paloma Thacker of Her Bendy Life — in outfits from Liv Boutique, Peacock Boutique and Six Sisters Boutique to illustrate 10 popular fall trends. Embrace and enjoy all the season has to offer with these stylish autumn options. Happy September!
Trend: Kimonos and dusters
“This flowy, lightweight outerwear creates the coverage you need when you are not ready to say goodbye to your summer shorts,” says Shannon. Laid-back dusters are almost as comfy as a blanket, which is just what you’ll want when the autumn dusk at evening football games ushers in chilly breezes.
Trend: Dark or blue floral prints
Just like the kimono above, with its black background and bold magenta-and-purple florals, dark floral designs and particularly blue floral prints are on-trend, says Shannon. “Floral prints will still be around this fall, so opt to use them in darker hues,” she says.
Trend: Interesting sleeves
“From dresses to tops, interesting sleeves are everywhere,” says Shannon. “Butterfly, bell and ruffle sleeves will be in heavy rotation this season.” Embrace a dramatic look with some serious arm candy — in the form of intriguing sleeves.
Trend: Cut-out choker sweaters and dark-toned denim
If you haven’t noticed, the ’90s choker look is back, along with dark denim. But if choker necklaces aren’t really your thing, you can still achieve this look with tops that have choker-style cut-outs. “The cut-out flaunts a peek of skin while the long sleeves allow you to ditch the jacket,” says Shannon. “Shades of green — like forest and olive — are becoming a fall must-have to add to your denim collection.”
Trend: Shirt dresses
“When the weather gets chilly enough to wear long sleeves, but still warm enough to wear a dress with booties, opt for the shirt dress. It creates the vibe of fall yet leaves you comfortable in mild temperatures,” says Shannon. Find the shirt dress that suits your style and body type, whether it’s tailored and preppy or breezy and bohemian. Finish the look with your favorite booties, vest, jewelry or clutch for a fabulous fall ensemble.
Trend: Leather pencil skirt
“Fall is the perfect weather for a leather skirt. This wardrobe staple is great for the office or paired with a tank for a night out,” says Shannon. “Mixing feminine touches like lace softens the edginess of leather.” And even though it’s trending now, a leather pencil skirt is a classic closet staple that will stand the test of time.
Trend: Cropped jumpsuits
Edgy, out-of-the-box hems are all the rage this season. “The jumpsuit gets a little shorter this fall. Paired with booties, this look can bridge the gap between summer and fall,” says Shannon.
Trend: Black-and-navy color combo
“Black and navy play well together, and you should mix them often this fall. Mixing these colors in lighter fabrics like silk can seamlessly transition your wardrobe into fall,” says Shannon.
Trend: Sleeveless turtleneck
“These tanks are great layered under long blazers or long-sleeved sweaters, perfect for when the temps are cooling, but it’s still warm,” says Shannon. The sleeveless turtleneck is a basic yet versatile piece that can be layered or worn on its own — more bang for your buck! We all like that.
