Taco City

A little gem in the heart of the Highlands, Taco City boasts 11 delicious tacos, as well as several other options including nachos, burritos, tortas, quesadillas and corn on the cob. You can even get maduros, yuca frita and sweet potato fries alongside your tacos. Try the Chilango taco made with thin cesina steak, chorizo, onions and cilantro.

Taco Choza

When you want to load up on delicious tacos, you can’t go wrong with Taco Choza. Opened in 2018 in St. Matthews, this little shop and its kitchen pack a serious flavor punch. Taco Choza offers bigger than average corn tortilla tacos, tortas, giant burritos and quesadillas. Choose from several sauce options, including tomatillo, jalapeño and chipotle and 11 taco flavors alongside rotating daily specials.

Kentucky Taco Company

What started off as a food truck, Kentucky Taco Company opened its first brick-and-mortar location last year in St. Joseph. But don’t expect traditional tacos here. Creative Kentucky-centric options include the Fried Chicken Mac and Beer Cheese, the BBQ Chicken, Sloppy Joe and BBQ Vegan (roasted cauliflower). Other fun menu items include a Kentucky Hot Brown chimichanga, a bacon cheeseburger ’nada (empanada) and a chicken pot pie ’nada.

Migo

The creative chef behind the wildly popular Hammerheads and Game opened this unique taco joint in the Highlands. A slightly fancier taco joint, Migo is only open in the evenings. Ten tacos round out the menu, including four vegetarian options, an Ahi Amarillo Salmon, Crispy Buffalo Soft-Shell Crab and Baja Crispy Shrimp, Grilled Adobo Chicken, Jamaican Jerk Plantain and Crispy Mushroom and Sweet Corn. Other interesting menu items include Chimi-Verde Wings, Crispy Brussels Sprouts, Yucca Tots and even mussels.

Longboard’s Taco & Tiki

Longboard’s specializes in chef-inspired tacos and Tiki-inspired cocktails: a perfect combination in our book. Seven tacos on the menu include Ancho Chili Mahi Mahi, Duck Confit and Korean BBQ. Non-taco highlights include a quinoa bibimbap bowl, the Chef’s Poke (which rotates ingredients depending on what’s available), Yucca Tots and Elote — a tasty shareable side of roasted corn, crispy Brussels sprouts, cotija cheese, bacon and jalapeno aioli served with a crispy tortilla.

Taco Steve

Building your own tacos is part of the fun at this New Albany eatery. Choose a vessel: taco, tostada, quesadilla, burrito, nachos or burrito bowl. Then add your filling: chorizo, potato, pork verde or chipotle chicken, to name just a few. Top your tacos off with your favorite embellishments like queso, jalapeno, cilantro, onions and many more. Taco Steve is in the New Albanian Brewhouse, so you can enjoy a craft beer along with your delicious tacos.

Mexa

Another St. Matthews taqueria, Mexa offers an extensive menu of 16 tacos, including seafood and breakfast tacos. One specialty is the Crunchy Cheese, which has a crispy layer of cheese melted on the griddle then folded around the steak filling. Unlike the other spots listed, Mexa offers breakfast tacos (after they open at 11 a.m.!) and nachos.
