It has been one month since I made my New Year’s resolution, and I have been keeping a secret from many of you this entire time… I’ve kept it a secret to see if I could keep my resolution successfully. And now, I confess, mainly because I need to be held accountable.
I’m on a diet. I mean, I am REALLY on a diet. In addition, I have been waking up extra early many mornings to go to Mohr Results Adventure Boot Camp at 5:30 a.m.
Here’s why: I’m doing the Rock Your Jeans challenge. According to Kara and Chris Mohr from Adventure Boot Camp, I’m going to fit in a pair of jeans two sizes smaller than my current size in a month (so that’s two months’ diet time total). I have worn these jeans before, 2 1/2 years ago to be exact, when I was in great shape, fresh off running the mini-marathon and I was thin. Beset by leg and foot injuries the past two years, my running has not been regular and my weight has gone up steadily. 20 pounds steadily. As my one friend said when she gained weight, “it is the heaviest I’ve been without sustaining a human life.” Agreed.
The first week on the diet was a complete detox. No caffeine, no alcohol, no sugar, no carbs and no artificial sweeteners. I could eat protein, beans, vegetables and fruit. Off-limits items were introduced back into the diet after the first week on a limited basis. (I managed the list fine, but the no caffeine brought me to my knees.) Since the initial detox, I’ve been following this plan. I’m not going to call it a diet, because it is not deprivation. I’m not hungry and I feel great.
For two years, I’ve been hearing about this challenge from friends. Quite frankly, I was scared to death to do it. I realized last summer that my weight was not coming off with my normal lifestyle, so this was a perfect kick-in-the-booty to start. Kara Mohr says she has a 100% success rate. I have never been so motivated to fit into a pair of jeans. The motivator is much more powerful than weighing in on a scale.
Despite the early hour, I absolutely hands down love the boot camp. These camps sell out each month for a reason. If you like having a trainer, you will love this. If you like doing something different every day, you will love this. I realized quickly that I am in shape and that I could go run for an hour, but doing five pushups was a fate worse than death. So it is a complete body workout with strength training and cardio. I feel stronger each time I go. I’m going to be so ripped soon, you won’t recognize me.
So there it is. I’m halfway to my goal. I can already wear pants that had previously been gathering dust the last two years. It makes the early wake up calls all worth it.
You can now hold me accountable when you see me nibbling on the free queso and chips at Paul’s or going through McDonald’s getting a Diet Coke. Just reach out and take it out of my hands. I won’t hurt you. I might cry, but just avert your eyes.
I’ll report back in a month and tell you if I got my jeans zipped up. Fingers and toes crossed…..
