Jenny Pfanenstiel, owner and Master Milliner at Formé Millinery, relocated to Louisville from Chicago a few years ago because Derby attendees just couldn’t get enough of her artistic, hand-blocked hats. Jenny opened a storefront in the Mellwood Center to better serve her clients, but her work can be found in shops and boutiques here in Louisville, including Peacock Boutique, and throughout the country. Formé Millinery hats are on hand at Churchill Downs at the Kentucky Derby Museum where Jenny is the official milliner. If you are looking for a handmade, one-of-a-kind hat for the Derby, track down one of Jenny’s beautiful creations before they are gone. And read more about Jenny in our recent FACES profile here.

Olivia Rose Griffin, founding Griffin Hatters hat designer, is a San Francisco transplant who made the leap to Louisville inspired by our city’s love of the Derby. Olivia’s handmade hats, hatinators and fascinators can be found at her shop, The Mysterious Rack on South Fourth Street, but many boutiques throughout the city carry select pieces. All bases for Griffin Hatters hatinators and fascinators are blocked and built in-house, and all pieces are designed by Olivia or milliner and designer Janet Weeden. Griffin Hatters also carries a selection of high-quality men’s hats that can be detailed with bands and more accents. All hats are made with comfort, fun and style in mind. Griffin Hatters hats definitely make an artistic impact we love.

Something Blue, located in Norton Commons, is well known for their great selection of wedding accessories and gifts, but their lineup of on-trend women’s clothing and accessories is just as fantastic. So it’s no surprise that they would also have great Derby hat options on hand. We particularly loved their affordable colorful fascinator options in an array of candy-bright colors that make any Derby ensemble festive.
