Across the river, there’s a little city with a big personality. Jeffersonville, Indiana, is an up-and-coming city, and if you haven’t explored this well-kept secret, you should. Here’s how to spend a day in Jeffersonville.
How to Spend a Day in Jeffersonville, Indiana
Get an early rise, because we’re packing a lot of activities into this day in Jeffersonville. To begin, we recommend parking by the Big Four Bridge to avoid the tolls, then taking a brisk morning stroll across the bridge to watch the sunrise over the skyline. After your walk, it’s time for some breakfast. If you have a hankering for hashbrowns and bacon, check out Stricker’s Cafe. If you’re feeling something sweet instead, Jeff’s Bakery has the donuts you’ve been waiting for your whole life. A relative newcomer to Jeffersonville and a perfect little breakfast diner is Geraldine’s Kitchen. Grab an omelet or some hashbrowns, and you’ll be in breakfast heaven.
With a full belly from breakfast, it’s time for a little shopping — one of our favorite Jeffersonville activities, thanks to all the adorable boutiques and shops. When you’re looking for your next date-night outfit, we recommend Sapphire Boutique. When it’s time to dress up and head to a fun event, Tru Bliss has you covered. If it’s more casual attire you’re after, or even a gift for a loved one, we recommend Blessings on Spring. With fall on the horizon, new decor is a necessity — not a want. Head to LL&A to give your home the touch up it needs. Finally, if you bring the kiddos along with you for the day, head to Brilliant Bumble Bee to grab them a toy and keep them entertained.
After your morning shopping in Jeffersonville, the lunch cravings are sure to come. Luckily, options abound and there’s something for every appetite. If BBQ is calling your name, Harley’s Hardwoodz BBQ is sure to hit the spot. It’s close to Texas-style BBQ, so get ready to chow down. For some delicious and cheap Mexican fare, Ramiro’s Cantina Express is what you want. The set up is similar to Chipotle or Qdoba, and we recommend loading up some nachos with all of the fixin’s. If you’re craving a beer and wings, Cluckers is your spot. With a gorgeous view of the river and downtown Louisville, you’ll be more than satisfied.
After lunch, rent a bike from The Widow’s Walk Ice Creamery & Bicycle Rentals and take a ride around Falls of the Ohio State Park — then reward yourself afterward with some ice cream! If you’re feeling like indulging in more of a leisurely activity, head to the Vintage Fire Museum, where you can explore regional fire-fighting history, learn fire safety, pay your respects to those who have lost their lives protecting others and visit the store for a souvenir.
For a color- and music-filled experience in the great outdoors, head to Harmony Park, which is filled with instrument-inspired sculptures and plenty of vibrant colors by way of umbrellas and murals. During the summer, you can also catch a free concert on Friday nights at The RiverStage.
With all of the activity, you may be ready for dinner. Red Yeti should be at the top of your list for its incredible eats and fun, relaxed vibe. The menu features burgers, sandwiches and the like, and there’s also a kids’ menu for pint-sized (or picky!) palates. SB TIP: You’ll enjoy a great wine pour at Red Yeti!
If you’re looking for a “come and hang for the night” type of vibe, Parlour Pizza is an excellent choice. The menu is filled with everything from salads to subs and plenty of delicious pizza options in between. Amazing outdoor decor, corn hole, a giant Jenga game and more make this a great place to take the gang.
For a more elevated dining experience, with a stunning view of the river to boot, Portage House is a perfect choice. The menu is replete with creative dishes like gingered black bean cakes, griddled meatloaf and hot sauce-marinated fried chicken. And if you try nothing else, do NOT leave without tasting the cast iron goat cheese dip. Trust us!
After dinner, it’s time to relax and grab a drink. For an ice-cold beer, head to Flat12 Bierworks. For a hangout with great company and some tasty beverages, you can’t go wrong with Match, a cigar and bourbon house. You don’t have to smoke cigars to enjoy a visit — their made-to-order cocktails are just as worthy. For a sweet treat with a boozy twist, head to Mr. Icee’s BrainFreeze for an alcohol-infused snowcone.
After the sun’s gone down and you’ve had a full day in Jeffersonville, it’s time to head back across the lit-up Big Four Bridge and back into Louisville. Until next time, Jeffersonville!
