Eating healthy is one of my personal challenges. I have not only a large appetite and a major sweet tooth, but when it comes to choosing something healthy over something unhealthy, I’ll most likely be choosing the latter. With swimsuit season here though, eating healthy is rapidly becoming a top priority. Like most women, my schedule is jam-packed, so thinking ahead and preparing a healthy lunch or dinner is as great a challenge as choosing to eat healthy. When I do plan ahead and cut up fruits or vegetables, it is never enough to sustain my appetite for the day, which leads to my mid-afternoon overdose on chocolate, popcorn or vending machine snacks. One way to combat this? Premade salads, and we’re not talking about the ones you premake at home. Here is a roundup of the best premade salads in town that are healthy, will keep you full and, most importantly, are so delicious.

Lotsa Pasta never lets me down. Whether it’s cheese dips, fresh bread, pizza dough, marinara or pesto sauce, they truly know how to serve up some homemade fare. But we’re talking healthy here, so their selection of freshly made salads is what’s up. They’re delicious, and they happen to carry my most favorite one, the Mediterranean, which has romaine, sun-dried tomatoes, red onion, olives, feta cheese, pepperoncini and Lotsa Pasta vinaigrette. Additional options include a traditional Caesar, with the addition of red peppers; spinach salad with onions, cranberries, almonds and oranges, and a fresh salad with cucumber, celery, carrots and tomatoes.

Whole Foods serves up some pretty great salads, but they are on the more expensive side. Nevertheless, they’re still healthy. My personal favorite is the chipotle ranch salad with chicken, black beans, corn and tomatoes with chipotle ranch dressing. They also carry a great traditional Caesar salad; a delicious Niçoise salad with tuna, lettuce, red potatoes, green beans, hard boiled egg, tomato and olives, and a super food salad, with kale, cabbage, carrots, red onion, blueberries, sunflower seeds, soybeans, grape tomatoes, cashews and goji berries. Now talk about some healthy, filling lunches!

The Fresh Market salads are a staple in our home, and we must have tried every single one. My favorite is the strawberry spinach salad with baby spinach, strawberries, brie cheese, slivered almonds and red onions all tossed in poppyseed dressing. My second favorite is their Gorgonzola pear salad with pears, Gorgonzola cheese, walnuts, caramelized onions, crumbled applewood smoked bacon and blush wine vinaigrette. Most recently, I tried a different one, their Southwest chicken salad with corn, black beans, chicken, tomatoes, lettuce and green onions. Of course, we can’t forget about their awesome traditional Caesar or their Caprese salad, which is a salad, after all, and a delicious and fresh one, at that!

Rainbow Blossom’s spin on a salad is crafty, uber-healthy and vegan! These yummy veggie rolls with carrots, celery, cucumber, cilantro, lettuce, peppers and rice noodles are wrapped in rice paper.

Trader Joe’s is one of my favorite grocery stores, mainly because they carry excellent boxed wine. A close second, though, is their premade meals, specifically their large selection of salads. Their chopped house salad with chicken features cabbage, fennel, feta and green olive champagne vinaigrette … definitely a must-try! Additionally, their shrimp and surimi salad with carrots, shrimp, surimi and lemon with Louie dressing is one of my favorite seafood salads.

Paul’s Fruit Market has some of the best homemade items in town, especially their cheese dips and premade salads. They have a large selection to choose from in both categories, but since we’re talking salads, definitely try the Gourmet Salad, which has romaine, carrots, celery, cauliflower, grape tomatoes, peppers, olives, chick peas and pepperoncini—it’s my favorite!
Happy healthy eating!
