A couple of months ago, I got a press release from the gals over at B.You Fitness introducing me to their new B. Silque Lifted class. Here’s how they described it:
A class for all levels, B.Silque™ Lifted tones your body from head to toe. Utilizing your body weight as resistance and the silk for balance, B.Silque™ Lifted will activate your core throughout the entire class and chisel your body to an entirely new level. This class incorporates both grounded and lifted elements for an innovative, challenging and total body work out!
B.Silque™ Lifted is inspired by modern day Cirque de Soleil and the best elements of aerial yoga, ballet, and suspension training. B.Silque™ Lifted incorporates inversions and tricks while challenging every muscle in your body. This class breaks down each exercise and provides individual instruction to teach proper form and safety.
Make that a NO for me.
Heck no. I’m too old for those antics.
But, I was intrigued. And I trust B.You owners Stephanie Bristow and Rashna Carmicle that they would not lead me down the path to humiliation. I agreed to observe a class and write a story. I also took along someone younger and less fearful, my twelve year old daughter, as my guinea pig. I mean, I can’t take pictures and write and hang from the rafters all at the same time, right?
We arrived to a room full of women ranging in age from 20 to possibly 50. They were all just hanging out, literally, in their cocoons (as I have come to call them), the ariel straps used during class.
Class runs an hour and involves every single part of the body. Moves are seamless, and while you cannot believe you are in these positions, there are very easy, natural transitions into them. Just watching my daughter’s face through the class, she wasn’t scared; she simply went from one move to the next, not realizing she was doing the splits upside down suspended by a piece of silk. Here’s a pictorial review of the hour long class:
After seeing the class, I would absolutely go back and take it for myself, with no fear. It is a great workout and combines so many different types of exercises. The time Rashna and Stephanie have dedicated to creating this workout makes this all-inclusive and all-encompassing.
B.You is located in Chenoweth Square and on January 14, their second location will open in Springhurst. For more information, visit their website: www.byoufitness.com.
