It’s the best season of all in the Bluegrass. It’s Derby season, so why not decorate your front door to celebrate? After all, it’s the first spot people see when passing by or entering your home. Just drive down any street in Louisville right before Derby to see all the festive wreaths and door hangers. If you’re stumped for Derby front door decor, we can help. We looked around and found a few options, which are available for purchase in stores, online or to make yourself.
Horseshoes are synonymous with good luck. Place this authentic horseshoe, with real dirt from the track inside, above your door, and you may just win the trifecta this year. Okay, maybe not, but you will be showing off your Derby spirit in a rather unique way. Find these bejeweled horseshoes at Hallmark USA-Oxmoor Center for $24.99 each.

Horseshoe ribbon for a wreath
For all you DIY folks who still need to add the finishing touches to your Derby wreaths, check out this adorable horseshoe ribbon. Tie a pretty bow around that wreath, and hang it up! Find it at Digs Home & Garden for $36 a roll.
Door hanger horseshoe with burlap
Horseshoes are known for bringing good fortune to those who put them on their door. This one from Celebrations is one of the best ways to show off your Derby spirit and attract the luck you’ll need when placing bets at the track on Derby day. Pick one up for $42.
Jockey silk wreath
Some people bet on their Derby horse based on the name. Then there are those who choose to abide by the numbers. Still others make their selection based on the colors of the jockey silk. If you fall into that category — and if you enjoy the DIY aspect of decorating — Studio G in Norton Commons has you covered. They offer classes where you can paint your ideal jockey silk starting for $35.
Mint julep door hangers
Everyone knows the official drink of the Kentucky Derby is the mint julep. As locals, we know not to order one of these drinks unless we want to be mistaken for a tourist. Instead, why not turn the official drink into your official Derby decor? Try this customizable mint julep door hanger from For Pete’s Sake Pottery for $50 each. (Click on link to order at the Etsy store.)
DIY wooden jockey and bugler
For bonus points, you can bypass the store and make something yourself. These were just too cute to not mention. We found these festive wooden figures at a home in St. Matthews where the homeowner cut the wood in his garage and assembled the figures himself going off a picture he took of one at a local fish fry. Now that’s the spirit!
